Volvo has announced plans to roll out a massive over-the-air software update for millions of vehicles in its biggest launch ever.
The Swedish automaker has confirmed that it will introduce a "comprehensive user experience upgrade", with around 2.5 million vehicles set to benefit.
The update, which has been dubbed Volvo Car UX, will include a more user-friendly layout for the central display screen in a bid to reduce the amount of tapping required from the driver.
Volvo owners with Google built into the system will receive the upgrade, even if their vehicle was built as early as 2020. The update will begin rolling out to customers this week.

The free upgrade is part of Volvo's aim to improve its fleet of vehicles with regular over-the-air software updates.
The update will be available to vehicles including the C40, XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country and XC90 with Android operating system.
Volvo said it wanted to have a consistent design philosophy across all of its models, from drivers with a three-year-old XC40 to owners of a brand new EX90.
Anders Bell, chief engineering and technology officer at Volvo Cars, praised the new update, saying it was groundbreaking for the brand to introduce the new benefits for motorists.

He added: "This update is one of the largest over-the-air updates in automotive history, leveraging years of investment in Volvo Cars’ tech stack to improve life with their cars for millions of people.
"Our new user experience delivers significant updates and improvements in areas most used by drivers, and directly addresses the needs and desires of our customers."
One of the most beneficial changes is to present the most commonly used apps on the home screen at the same time, without having to switch between them.
This will allow drivers to change their music or speak on the phone without having to leave the Google Maps application.

| VOLVOPlug-in hybrid owners will also see changes made to their vehicles, with direct access to "Drive Modes" on the home screen, allowing them to choose which powertrain they are making use of.
Volvo said it would roll out the choice for motorists with Google built in to purchase and download the Pilot Assist driver assistance feature.
This is Volvo's advanced driver assistance system, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping aid to help steer, accelerate and brake.
The software is available for £499 and allows the car to maintain its lane position and distance from the car in front of it.
