Renault has confirmed plans to launch a new electric car in the coming years that will cost drivers less than £20,000 in a major boost for those looking to ditch their petrol and diesel vehicles.
The Renault Twingo E-Tech has been described by the French manufacturer as a "game-changer", with a targeted price tag of less than £20,000.
The bold new electric car will come equipped with a lightweight 60kW motor, One Pedal driving and a battery range of up to 163 miles.
Renault is aiming to transform the A-segment of vehicles, since these city cars make up less than five per cent of the European market.

It explained that drivers across the continent were looking to turn their backs on large SUVs in favour of compact, affordable vehicles, designed for urban living or use as a second car.
The Twingo E-Tech will be built at the manufacturer's Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, with drivers able to get their hands on the car from 2027.
The £20,000 price tag would position itself among the most affordable electric cars on the market, and could benefit from a growing number of drivers looking to switch away from petrol and diesel vehicles.
Paula Fabregat-Andreu, Design Project Director at Ampere, said: "Our main aim in designing this modern-day Twingo was to recapture the bold spirit of the first generation, a compact one-box silhouette, spacious and modular inside with the playful, mischievous character that defined the first generation.
