Motorists are facing delays of almost an hour near Manchester this morning

Drivers are being warned of long delays on major roads across the UK this morning following a number of incidents on crucial traffic routes.

The M60 north of Manchester remains closed between Junction 17 and Junction 14 following overnight works in the anti-clockwise direction.

The overnight works were scheduled to end at 5am, but have run over after the road was flooded between Junction 16 and Junction 15.

National Highways has confirmed that the flooding on the motorway is due to a burst water pipe.

However, the flooding is unrelated to the overnight works, as it occurred during the closure to allow teams to complete repairs.

Clear-up works have been successful on the M60 anti-clockwise, with preparations being made to remove the closure.

Despite this, drivers are still facing long delays in excess of 30 minutes on approach.

Motorists have been warned that congestion remains on both the M60 anti-clockwise and M62 westbound.

CCTV cameras along the motorway show long queues of vehicles on the approach to the affected junctions along the M60.

Drivers are also dealing with delays on the A3 in Surrey. The northbound carriageway between the A247 (Burntcommon) and the B2039 (Ockham) has been shut due to a serious collision.

Emergency services, including Surrey Police, are in attendance, with National Highways also deploying resources to assist with traffic management of the scene.

The transport organisation has set out a signposted diversion route for motorists travelling in and around the area.
