Fire crews have been called from around the West Midlands

Drivers are facing long delays this morning on one of the busiest motorways in the UK after a collision resulted in an overturned van.

National Highways has confirmed that three of four lanes remain closed on the M5 northbound between Junction 6 (Worcester) and Junction 5 (Wychbold).


A collision has resulted in an overturned van, which is blocking traffic for vehicles in the second and third lanes.

Recovery vehicles are en route to the scene to assist with the damaged vehicle on the M5.

There are approximately seven miles of congestion on the approach to the scene, with delays in excess of 90 minutes.

The incident was marked as pending at 7.38am by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

Three crews were called to the scene, including one from Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Redditch Fire Stations.

Fire teams were supported by a West Midlands Fire Service crew from Northfield, near Birmingham.

They were called out at 6.42am to a road traffic accident involving a "large vehicle" on the M5 northbound between J5 and J5.

A spokesperson from HWFRS said: "The incident involved one HGV and a box van.

"A man in his 50s was released from the van by fire service personnel and handed over to the care of the ambulance service who attended along with police and Highways."
