Drivers are being warned that a major motorway will be shut for "several hours" as police continue investigations following a serious crash.
The M1 in West Yorkshire is closed southbound between J41 and J40 near Wakefield following a "serious road traffic collision".
National Highways Traffic officers are assisting with traffic management as emergency services assess the scene.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area following the serious collision

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: "The southbound M1 around J41 (Carr Gate/East Ardsley) has been closed as emergency services deal with a serious road traffic collision.
"The closure is likely to remain in place for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes."
Data from National Highways maps suggests that normal traffic conditions will return at around 1pm, although this could be extended further in the day.
Drivers travelling around West Yorkshire today are set to deal with lengthy delays for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon, with further traffic issues on the A162 to the east of the town.

Congestion on the A1M southbound between J41 and J40 is causing traffic issues and slow-moving traffic on the carriageway.
Long tailbacks with stationary or slow-moving traffic can be seen on the A1M between Junction 41 and Junction 38 north of Doncaster.
Motorists are also dealing with congestion on the southwestern approach to Leeds along the A58 (M).
National Highways has provided diversion routes for motorists travelling along the M1 who may be impacted by the carriageway closure.

Road users travelling southbound are being diverted via the hollow square diversion symbol
- Exit the M1 at J41 and at the roundabout, take the third exit onto A650
- Proceed along this road for approximately two miles to the junction with the M62 Motorway (J28)
- At the roundabout, take the first exit onto A653 (Dewsbury Road) and proceed along this road for around three miles to the junction with the B6128
- Turn left onto B6128 (Owl lane) and proceed along this road for roughly one mile to the roundabout with the A638
- At the roundabout, take the first exit onto A638 (Wakefield Road) and proceed along this road for two miles to re-join the M1 at J40

Road users travelling northbound are being diverted via the hollow triangle diversion symbol:
- Driving North, exit the M1 Motorway using the Junction 40 exit slip road and proceed to the end of the slip road
- At this roundabout, take the first exit onto A638 (Wakefield Road) and proceed along this road for approximately two miles to the roundabout with B6128
- At this roundabout, take the third exit onto B6128 (Owl Lane) and proceed for around one mile along this road to the signalised junction with A653
- At the signalised junction, turn right onto A653 (Leeds Road) and proceed along this road for about two miles to the roundabout with the M62 (J28)
- At this roundabout, take the fourth exit to join the M62 EB and proceed along this road for one mile until they approach the existing motorway signing for J29 of M62 (Lofthouse Interchange)
- Follow existing motorway signage to join M1 NB, M1 SB or continue EB on M62 as required
