Poor sales contributed to UK exit decision

A major car company has announced the end of a popular petrol model as the brand moves into a new direction.

Genesis has revealed it will stop taking orders for its G70 and GV80 models and instead is only selling them from stock.

The decision comes after poor UK sales impacted the company, with only 400 cars sold in the three years it has been available to drivers.

Parent company Hyundai axed the Genesis brand as a separate legal entity in the UK at the beginning of the year.

A Genesis spokesperson said: “The G70 and GV80 are still being made, but we’re not taking customer-specified orders for them anymore – we’re selling from stock only.”

However, the spokesperson did note that the brand had no intention of halting production of the two models.

Drivers can still order G70 cars at Shooting Brake guise, with prices coming in at £42,955, the model features a sloping rear roof line plus a more practical estate body style.

As standard, it also comes with a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 242bhp plus 353Nm of torque and has rear-wheel drive.

Although the G70 and GV80 have been underperforming, its electric counterparts, theGV60 EV is one of Genesis’s best-selling models. It offers a 77.4kWh battery pack which can support an electric range of up to 321 miles.

Meanwhile the GV70, which was launched in April has also been taking off. The new model features 19-inch dark hyper silver wheels.

Genesis is the latest car manufacturer to stop selling in the UK - following Italian manufacturer Fiat.

The car maker announced that its current Panda model will be discontinued soon as it prepares for the sale of the new Grande Panda models.

The Panda was one of the brand's smallest and most popular models, with a price point of less than £15,000 helping it sell thousands of models.

Since the car was first introduced in 1980, Fiat has produced around eight million models worldwide, making it one of the most popular for the Italian brand.

A spokesperson for Fiat said: "In readiness for the launch of [the] new Grande Panda, which will arrive in showrooms early in the new year, orders for [the] current Panda in the UK will now be satisfied from existing stock.

“As announced earlier in the year, Panda will continue in the rest of Europe as Fiat Pandina special series and still be produced at the Italian plant of Pomigliano d’Arco at least until 2027.”
