Jaecoo and Omoda have quickly become two of the most recognisable brands in the UK

The Omoda E5 has been crowned as the UK's most popular electric car of 2025, with the Chinese brand quickly becoming a mainstay on roads across the country.

New data from leasing specialist Octopus Electric Vehicles found that the Omoda E5 was the most popular EV in the UK last year.

The affordable electric SUV has quickly propelled Omoda into the mainstream of new brands to hit the UK market, along with sister brand Jaecoo, which sells one of the most popular hybrids in the 7 model.

Omoda's E5 electric car comes packed with impressive technology, a 61kWh battery, an estimated range of 228 miles and rapid charging speeds.

Through the Octopus EV leasing scheme, drivers can get their hands on the E5 from as little as £269 a month, depending on how far they drive, how long they would like the car, and how much they want to pay upfront.

When investing in the E5 through the Octopus EV scheme, motorists can also get a free charger, with experts praising the SUV for being a perfect family car.

Chris Clayton, head of fleet and Omoda&Jaecoo, said the E5 being the most popular EV with Octopus EV was a "solid mark of trust and baseline for 2026 growth".

Other popular models across the last 12 months included the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes EQB, Cupra Born and the MG MG4.

Despite being a tumultuous year for the brand, Tesla remains popular among drivers across the UK, especially for its prestige as an EV-only manufacturer.

The Cupra Born is also a fan favourite for its impressive range of up to 369 miles from £34,190 or £295 a month through Octopus EV.

In the final quarter of 2025, the Jaecoo E5 was the most popular EV, with the Chinese brand seeing further success after the enormous popularity of its 7 hybrid.

The Jaecoo E5 has a range of 248 miles, comes with a free charger from Octopus EV, and can be delivered within eight to 12 weeks.

Motorists looking to get behind the wheel of the E5 can pay £319 per month for a four-year contract, 5,000 annual miles and three months' payment upfront.

Alvin Castillo, Procurement Director at Octopus Electric Vehicles, said: "I first saw the Jaecoo E5 at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025 and it was immediately clear it could be a game-changer for the UK.

"Building on the success of its smaller sibling, the Omoda E5, it delivers that classic Jaecoo styling, space, and road presence with a really usable EV range that is proven to suit most drivers."

He noted that Octopus was the first provider to sell the Omoda E5 in September, and has already become the company's top-performing car of the year.

Mr Castillo noted that drivers were most interested in investing in Jaecoo and Omoda's vehicles thanks to "great design and great value".

Similarly, Chris Clayton added: "Just months after its UK introduction, the Jaecoo E5 has already become the top-selling electric vehicle through Octopus EV in Q4, which is a strong early indicator of how well the car is resonating with fleet and salary sacrifice customers.

"It underlines the demand we're seeing for EVs that combine distinctive design, strong real-world range and a competitive total cost of ownership, backed by a straightforward ordering and ownership experience."
