Chancellor Rachel Reeves has supported petrol and diesel drivers by confirming the introduction of the new Fuel Finder scheme.
Speaking in the Commons today, the Labour MP said: "Because I know that changes in wholesale prices are not always passed on to motorists, I am bringing in new rules to mandate petrol forecourts to share real-time price rises through a new Fuel Finder.
"Empowering drivers to find the cheapest fuel, calling out rip-offs and strengthening competition, saving the average household £40 a year."
The Fuel Finder scheme was confirmed in last year's Autumn Budget in an attempt by the Government to help lessen the impact of petrol and diesel prices on drivers.
It will require major supermarkets and retailers to publish the latest prices and the unavailability of fuel within 30 minutes of a change.
This is designed to help motorists find the cheapest fuel in their area, and boost competition among retailers to cut costs for the benefit of drivers.
Estimates suggest that once the scheme is in place, drivers could save between one and six pence per litre, creating significant savings for the average motorist.
It could also have a huge benefit for the haulage industry, with individual drivers potentially able to save thousands of pounds a year.

| PALast year, the Government stated that it aimed to introduce the measures by the end of 2025, subject to Parliamentary time.
A spokesperson from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero previously told GB News that Fuel Finder was "on track".
They added: "Retailers must give drivers a fair price for their fuel, by passing on any savings at the pump.
"Fuel Finder will ensure retailers share real-time prices, making them more accountable to drivers.

"We have also given the Competition and Markets Authority powers to monitor competition in the road fuel market, to make sure people aren't being charged rip-off prices when they fill up."
Reacting to the news, RAC head of policy Simon Williams said Fuel Finder launching in early 2026 would be a "big moment".
He added that petrol stations would need to report their live prices and changes "for the first time".

Analysis suggests that households who own a car will save around £40 a year.
When combined with other actions the Government is taking, including extending the freeze on fuel duty, households can save £89 next year.
