The discount supermarket chain is searching for a candidate to help bosses make key decisions for its next offering of alcoholic beverages

Aldi has launched a search for an “official beer taster” to review its new range of beers.

The range will launch in just over six weeks time on September 11.

The successful applicant will try four pale ales, three IPAs, two beers, four ciders, one stout and one lager.

All of the beverages need to be tasted and reviewed for the discount supermarket chain.

The beer taster’s review will help influence how Aldi bosses progress with the brand’s next range.

An ideal candidate will have an “hop-timistic” attitude and will be asked for feedback on the whole range of drinks, according to the company.

Applicants must send an email to Aldi explaining in 150-words why they are suitable for the role and identify which of the supermarket’s beers is their favourite and why.

The email must also include an aspiring beer taster’s full name, proof of age and social media handles if applicable.

Emma Budd, a 28-year-old NHS worker from Milton Keynes, was last year selected as Aldi’s first official beer taster.

She impressed judges with her application after revealing she tried locally brewed products in 51 countries, including Antigua and St Lucia.

Budd said: “It was a great opportunity to support Aldi and be part of something I have a passion for – a career highlight!

“Being able to taste and share beers ahead of anyone else felt exciting and I loved the variety of flavours on offer.

“I would encourage anyone who has a passion for beer to apply.”

Applications for the next beer taster are open until August 21 and the successful candidate will be selected by August 25.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “We are always looking to innovate and excite when it comes to our beer range, experimenting with flavours such as coffee, caramel and watermelon.

“Emma’s opinions were instrumental in guiding us for this year’s product offering, particularly with regards to the flavoured beers, so we look forward to seeing what this year’s applicants bring.

“For beer lovers, it’s the ultimate opportunity. Best of luck to all.”
