Fans rallied around the One Direction star online after the singer posted a message from hospital

Zayn Malik has revealed he is currently hospitalised and recovering from an unspecified health condition, sharing the news with fans via Instagram on Friday evening.

The 33-year-old posted a selfie from his hospital bed, showing himself in a gown and connected to monitors and an IV drip.

"To my fans – Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always – been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering," he wrote alongside the image.

The One Direction star also paid tribute to the medical team treating him, thanking doctors, nurses and a cardiologist in particular.

"You are all legends! Big big love," he added, though he did not disclose the nature of his condition.

The hospitalisation comes on a significant day for the Bradford-born artist, coinciding with the release of his fifth studio album, Konnakol.

The record marks his first full-length project since Room Under the Stairs in 2024, and reflects a deeply personal exploration of his South Asian heritage.

Speaking to Elle India earlier this month, Mr Malik said: "I got into the studio, booked in for 14 days… the process was trying to create this vision I had in my mind that didn't exist anywhere else."

He explained that he wanted to blend R&B with South Asian influences, noting there are few Indian-Pakistani artists represented in the Western music market.

All four of his previous solo albums have charted on the Billboard 200, with his 2016 debut, Mind of Mine, reaching number one.

Following the health update, Mr Malik’s management confirmed the cancellation of several promotional appearances scheduled for the coming days.

Meet-and-greet events at Looney Tunes Record Store on Long Island, Newbury Comics in Boston, Rough Trade in New York City, and The Sound Garden in Baltimore have all been called off.

A Konnakol pop-up shop at UMusic in New York will still go ahead on Monday, though the singer will no longer attend as planned.

The @inzayn Instagram account, run by his team, said ticket holders for the affected events would be contacted directly by the respective stores regarding next steps.

"Heartbroken that I can't see you all this week," Malik wrote to fans.

Despite the setback, the singer made clear his gratitude for continued support.

"I wouldn't be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding," he added.

The timing of his hospitalisation raises questions over his upcoming tour, which is due to begin in Manchester on May 12.

The UK and US dates are scheduled to run through to November 20, concluding in Miami.

Reflecting on his solo career during a February appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Mr Malik said: "Five solo albums now — I was just buzzing that I got to do the first one after [leaving] the band, [and] people seemed to care."
