The presenter shared a candid reflection with fans about her sobriety journey

Television presenter Ulrika Jonsson has marked one year of sobriety by sharing a powerful before-and-after photograph on Instagram.

The 57-year-old posted what she described as a "drunk" selfie alongside a recent image to illustrate her transformation.

The former Gladiators host used the milestone to reflect on her journey away from alcohol, which she said had helped her shed "crippling shame".

In her candid social media post, Jonsson revealed the extent of her previous struggles with drinking.

"Today I'm marking 1yr of sobriety. No fanfare, no medal, no trophy. The journey goes on," she wrote in the emotional caption accompanying the two contrasting selfies.

Jonsson opened up about the darker aspects of her drinking, admitting she would "black out and not recall the night" during her heaviest periods of alcohol consumption.

The presenter confessed to using alcohol to "kill my feelings of anxiety and my fears of everything," acknowledging the destructive pattern that had developed.

Her Instagram post detailed how drinking had become a way to manage overwhelming emotions.

In previous statements from October, Jonsson had described using alcohol to "remember the good times" and acknowledged a pattern of binge drinking alone.

By December, she had reached her six-month milestone and credited loved ones with supporting her recovery journey.

Celebrity friends rallied to support Jonsson's achievement, with Kerry Katona commenting: "So b****y proud of you my darling. Miss and love you all the world." Michelle Heaton added: "So happy for you darling."

The post attracted hundreds of supportive messages from fans. One follower wrote: "Well done on the first of many anniversaries of sobriety @ulrikajonssonofficial.

"You have chosen to be and do better and that is a huge transition and not without its challenges so, all props to you and long may it continue for you to reap the rewards."

Another supporter commented: "Congratulations, the best people I know are the sober ones. Alcohol is no one's friend." (sic)

The outpouring of encouragement highlighted the impact of Jonsson's openness about her sobriety journey.

Jonsson expressed particular gratitude towards her four children - Cameron, 30, Bo, 25, Martha, 20, and Malcolm, 16 - acknowledging the worry she had caused them.

"Thank you to my kids for their support; for having faith in me after I must have worried them so," she wrote.

She also thanked those who had helped her through the difficult process, adding: "A huge thanks to all those beautiful people who have supported me; understood me; scooped me up and handled me tenderly and without judgement; who nudged me in the right direction; who made me laugh and helped me shed the crippling shame."
