The former army officer welcomed his eldest son to his French chateau recently

Escape to the Chateau couple Dick and Angel Strawbridge have shared a rare tribute to Dick's oldest son, 41-year-old James.

The couple are parents to youngsters Arthur and Dorothy, who accompany their parents on their many ventures in France and abroad. However, chef son James lives in the UK and often pays visits to the beautiful chateau that was once the centre of their Channel 4 series.

James, along with his sister Charlotte, 40, are the children of Strawbridge and his ex-wife, British engineer Brigit.

The pair split in 2010, and years later, the former army officer met and married Angel Adoree, who later found fame on the series that followed the family as they left the UK to move into Chateau de la Motte-Husson for their exciting business endeavor.

Despite their distance in age and geography, Strawbridge's older children have been able to build close relationships with his younger children as well as Angel.

In a recent update sent to fans, the couple shared some snaps of the recent goings-on at the chateau and paid a special tribute to James.

It read: "Whilst we're sure James came for a visit to see me for Father's Day, he couldn't resist getting in the kitchen and helping out...

"So good to have James back in the Chateau kitchen. Thank you, James, for all your hard work."

The cook was seen in wholesome snaps alongside his young half-brother Arthur, 12, and their dad as the trio appeared to be cooking outdoors.

Another picture showed James with his arm around half-sister Dorothy, 11, as they donned helmets and stood next to their bicycles in front of the proud chateau.

In other photos, James' culinary skills were on display with the pictures boasting some of his dishes, with some more family snaps completing the collection.

The sweet family time spent outdoors with food at the centre seems to be a frequent event with the oldest Strawbridge son, and last year a similar trip saw Angel admitting how the two sons' bond "melts" her heart.

In Dick and Angel's podcast, the latter talked about a huge celebration the family threw at the chateau six years ago to celebrate her parents' 50th wedding anniversary.

At one point, Strawbridge pointed out how his two sons helped him out with it, to which Adoree remarked: "I've got to say it was proper melt-your-heart moments watching the three of you work together."

She continued: "You work really, really well together, and Arthur has always looked up to his big brother, James.

"And I remember I came in and Arthur's just sitting on the stool and James is just really, really engaged and listening to all of Arthur's ideas.

"Because your first answer to everything in life is 'no,' that's what you do, and James, he's 'yes, let's put as many ingredients in everything as possible.'

"And you're there going, 'Right guys, we've got to do these for 120 people, let's maybe not add that final ingredient'."

"I had my two sons sorting out how they'd make the black garlic mayonnaise to go with, and each dish had a dot of mayonnaise, but without that, they wouldn't have been happy," Strawbridge reflected.

James once opened up about who would be inheriting the chateau from his siblings, and he seemed to suggest his half-brother and sister would be the ones for the job.

Speaking to the Express in 2022, he stated: "When you go to the chateau, the work being done with the renovation is quite quick compared to when you look at a house with a 500-year history.

"It's definitely more intense at the chateau than at these houses I visit [for my new series].

Arthur and Dorothy's great-grandchildren in many years' time, and like one of the next generations will probably have a bit more of a chilled-out vibe."
