The former BBC Apprentice star has sparked backlash ever since being announced as a Strictly contestant

Thomas Skinner has shared a fresh social media update to begin the week following his Strictly Come Dancing debut over the weekend.

The controversial TV personality, who found fame on The Apprentice in 2019, has faced some backlash in response to being signed on the show.

However, Mr Skinner, 34, has maintained a positive approach to the challenge ahead of him, with his dance partner having been announced on Saturday as Strictly favourite Amy Dowden.

Sharing a statement on Monday morning, the businessman shared some positive advice with fans but touched on "criticism".

"Good Morning and happy Monday you lovely people!" he began in a statement that accompanied a photo of himself standing outside a café with a black taxi in the background.

He continued: "Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! I love a Monday morning, new day, new week, new start.

"Always stay positive and happy. Work hard and don't never give up. Be open to opinions and keep learning.

"Surround yourself with happy, warm and genuine people! But never take any criticism from anyone you wouldn't take advice from!"

The light-hearted post went on: "Now let's go and smash the day. The live show for Strictly start this Saturday, so gonna be working double hard in that dance studio this week.

"I'm currently looking like a [wardrobe] doing the Waltz at the minute [because] of the size of me.

"But I'm learning fast and training hard! Sending love to you and your families. Let's go smash today. Bosh." (sic)

He followed the post up with a comment that read: "Also big thank you to Jude Edginton who took these photo at Dino's Cafe for an article in The Times I [did] a couple weeks ago. Bosh." (sic)

The post comes two days after Mr Skinner made his debut on the popular show, which saw both himself and Ms Dowden seemingly delighted to be paired with each other.

Mr Skinner vowed to the dancer he would give "110 percent" despite having "two left feet".

The former Apprentice star even made his dancefloor debut as he performed alongside Ms Dowden in the group number at the end of the show.

Following his Strictly introduction on Saturday though, many of Mr Skinner's critics took to social media to express their belief Ms Dowden "deserved better."
