The tragedy comes nearly two years after Mounfield lost his wife Imelda to cancer.

She had been diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer without prior symptoms and passed away after a three-year battle with the disease, leaving behind their twin sons.

The Stone Roses paid homage to their fallen bandmate with a heartfelt message on social media. Alongside a photograph of Mounfield performing on stage, the group wrote: "RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for. x."

Former bandmate Ian Brown offered a simple but poignant tribute: "Rest in peace Mani X."
