British Youtuber and rapper Yung Filly has been charged with rape after he allegedly "attacked and strangled" a woman during his Australian tour.

Filly - real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos - was arrested by detectives in Brisbane on Tuesday.

It is understood the police sent him to Perth on Wednesday to face a hearing after the alleged attack happened there following a show.

The star is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s in his Perth hotel on September 28.

It is alleged that the assault unfolded after Filly performed at a nightclub - Bar1 - in the suburb of Hillary back in September.

Western Australia Police's sexual assault squad are said to have charged Filly with four counts of sexual penetration without consent.

Filly is claimed to have also been arrested on three counts of assault and one count of impeding a person's normal breathing or circulation - including applying pressure to the neck.

The 29-year-old appeared at Perth Magistrates Court Thursday, where his bail application was adjourned until later in the day.

Due to his high follower count, the star amassed a good turn out for the concert, which left those posting videos of him on their TikTok account - leaving Bar1 to follow suit.

It showed the club packed out with a raucous crowd who were rapping along to his songs.

Filly boasts a staggering three million followers on Instagram and nearly two million on YouTube, with his lawyer revealing in court that his client earns £360,000 a year from social media alone.

The popular online star began his online career in 2013 before breaking into the music industry in 2017 and is best known to be an integral part of a YouTube group called the Beta Squad.

Alongside his best friend - Chunkz - the pair have gone on to host many celebrity events, create their own podcast and often be invited along to many influencers events.

He presented on the BBC's Hot Property and his own Yung Filly's Celeb Lock-In, whilst making his primetime TV debut on Channel 4's The Great Celebrity Bake Off.

His Australian tour had kicked off in Perth before he headed to Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast, where he played four shows.

Filly has previously spoken of his pride about being a refugee when his family left Colombia for UK when he was just two years old. They settled in Lewisham, southeast London, living above a Morley's fried chicken shop.

He told Amazon Prime in 2020: "I'm most proud of the fact that I was a refugee, I'm proud that I had to struggle. It makes you appreciate all the little stuff a lot more. I don't think I really took in how poor we were.

"I was born in Colombia and sadly enough I don't know a lot about Colombia. But from what I do know, it's a happy place... when I think about my culture, I'm proud of the vibe that the country gives off, the people and the food."
