The evening before Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead, their son Nick allegedly disrupted a festive gathering hosted by American talk show host Conan O’Brien.
According to NBC News, the Hollywood director and his wife attended the Saturday night celebration alongside their 32-year-old son, whose behaviour left them feeling upset and embarrassed.
Sources have claimed Mr Reiner and Ms Singer were visibly concerned about their son's well-being during the event, with fellow guests made uncomfortable by his conduct.
One source told People that Mr Reiner's son “was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, [and] kept asking people if they were famous”.

The acclaimed filmmaker, 78, and his 68-year-old wife were found with multiple stab wounds, according to CBS News.
Their daughter Romy, 28, allegedly discovered the bodies and told responding officers that a family member “should be a suspect” because they were “dangerous”.

The son was later apprehended near a Metro station roughly 15 miles from the family home.
Sources say staff at The Pierside Santa Monica motel, where he had been staying, alerted police after finding blood inside his room.
The 32-year-old is currently being held without bail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
Prosecutors at the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office are expected to consider the case today.

The 32-year-old filmmaker had allegedly struggled with substance abuse for more than half his life, first entering rehabilitation at the age of 15.
By 18, he had been through numerous treatment programmes, interspersed with periods of homelessness and relapse.

In a 2018 appearance on the Dopey podcast, Mr Reiner's son said he had learned how to manipulate the rehabilitation system, staying sober only long enough to return home before resuming drug use.
He also described an incident in which, after being confined to his parents’ guest house, he became “totally spun out on uppers” and began destroying property during a days-long binge.
That episode led to yet another stint in treatment.
The fractured relationship between father and son later became the basis of their 2016 semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which the two collaborated on.
