The When Harry Met Sally director died in his home alongside his wife Michele Singer

Perez Hilton has paid tribute to Hollywood actor and director Rob Reiner following his death.

Speaking to GB News, the American broadcaster and commentator declared Mr Reiner "Hollywood royalty" after being found alongside his wife Michele at their Los Angeles home.

Authorities are treating the deaths as a double murder investigation after the 78-year-old filmmaker and his 68-year-old partner appeared to have sustained knife wounds, according to law enforcement sources.

Fire service paramedics were called to their mansion on Chadbourne Avenue at 3.38pm local time, with LAPD officers summoned shortly afterwards.

Suggesting that more information in regard to the deaths will be released today, Mr Hilton told GB News: "A couple of hours ago, the police in Los Angeles held a press conference, and as these things do, my expert prediction is that shortly after morning time in Los Angeles we will have another press conference where we are given more information.

"Right now, there are reports and chatters about who this family member involved may be, but the police have not confirmed any of that. They don't even acknowledge that anyone is in custody right now. We're only hearing that there's questioning happening."

Declaring Mr Reiner and his wife's deaths a "horrific way to die", Mr Hilton added: "The family has released a statement saying that they are in deep sorrow, and it's just heartbreaking.

"They are asking for privacy, and it's just a horrific way to to die. To have, acording to reports, one of his children, Romy, discover the bodies. I just can't imagine how traumatic that must be for that young woman in her 30s."

Hailing the film director's career in the industry, Mr Perez stated: "Rob Reiner was Hollywood royalty. His father, Carl, was also equally beloved and worked for his entire life, basically, as well.

"And I think the thing that's especially sad about this is, yes, Rob Reiner lived a full life at 78-years-old, but his father lived to be 98. Rob Reiner could have still lived decades longer. And to have things end like this, it just seems very traumatic."

Highlighting how the news of their deaths has travelled "beyond Hollywood" and "around the world", Mr Hilton said: "In the wake of their tragic murders, which is what it is being investigated as, we've heard from former presidents, Barack Obama spoke out, we've heard from the governor of California, the Mayor of Los Angeles, the Governor of Illinois.

"This is a story that has reached not just Hollywood, but truly beyond. And when I think of Rob Reiner, I think of a talented man who made so many different kinds of movies. Brilliant movies. He did comedies, he did dramas, he did suspense. He did every genre, and he did it all well."

Highlighting that details on the investigation are "limited" despite reports of the alleged involvement of a "family member", Mr Hilton made clear: "I don't know what you would like me to share: there is a very reputable publication in the United States, People Magazine, who has named someone.

"But as of right now, the authorities have not named a suspect."

LAPD detectives confirmed the couple's identities on Sunday evening, with a substantial police presence gathering at the property.

Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said during a press conference that investigators have yet to identify any suspect.
