The Queen legend shared a highly anticipated update on his social media

Sir Brian May has shared a huge update with fans after promising an "exciting" announcement.

The musical legend, 77, shared two clips on Instagram, the first urging fans to "swipe" to the next clip which saw him unboxing a Queen album. The post was accompanied by a lengthy written caption in which he described the update as "the final fulfilment of a dream".

For the first time ever, the band received a new stereo mix with a new tracklist and alternatives.

The record is Queen's self-titled debut album from 1973. Band guitarist May penned: "She's a beauty !! SWIPE !!!

"Half a century later, here is our debut QUEEN album, finally presented just the way we would have loved to present it in 1973.

"This is monumentally exciting for us, the final fulfilment of a dream. This is NOT just a remaster."

He continued: "The whole album has been lovingly REMIXED, from the meticulously restored original recordings on 16 track analogue magnetic tape.

"Although we were always proud of our very first album, it never had the SOUND we wanted.

"Being young whippersnappers at the time, we had no control over the way the instruments were recorded.

"It was recorded very dry in the studio - with no 'room', so to us the tracks have always sounded very lifeless and small.

"NOW - [our] chaps have laboured for months in the digital domain, to magically out that 'real' warm sound back in, and together we've remixed the whole thing - including reinstating a track which never appeared on the original release.

"I think when you hear the new sounds - especially the drums - you will be stunned !!

"OK - lots more to say ... as we go along. So why "QUEEN 1 ?" --- because that's exactly what we would've called it at the time if we'd known history was going to take us!"

Queen's drummer and backing vocalist Roger Taylor, 75, also shared a social media post to make the special announcement.

He penned: "Queen I in all its glory! It’s finally here and we couldn’t be more proud of the result.

"We hope you enjoy it too and if you fancy it, I’ll be chatting with @jowhiley on @bbcradio2 all about this and some other stuff from 8pm tonight."
