The Bake Off star has been a judge on the series since 2017

Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith changed one of her frequently-used phrases on the show following complaints and cancelation fears.

The 85-year-old baking expert replaced Mary Berry on the iconic show in 2017 when it moved to Channel 4, and shared how her commentary has evolved over the years.

Ms Leith was asked about how she and fellow judge Paul Hollywood come to a decision in Cake Corner each week.

She explained how the chat is for the audience’s benefit, as “Paul and I could do it in two seconds”.

She continued: “The audience often say that I'm kind and Paul’s horrible, but if you look at our scores out of 10, we’re never more than one point apart.

I used to say, ‘It’s not worth the calories.’

That is my absolute judgment about any baking, because you know it’s full of fat and sugar, so, ‘Do I really want to eat this? Am I prepared to get fat?’”

However, speaking to Radio Times, the restauranteur admitted: "I don’t say it now, because lots of people said they felt judged for liking cake. They thought I was being fattist.”

Mr Hollywood went on to admit he’d never given a bake a 10, only a 9.5.

He noted the contestants are “amateur bakers,” and the “professionals” would get a handshake from him, with his Hollywood Handshakes having become an iconic feature of the series.

Mr Hollywood also went on to make his own admission as he revealed he usually hides from people wanting a photo with him.

"I still don’t feel famous. I'm just a guy from telly who eats cake," he confessed.

Ms Leith opened up earlier this year about ageing as she declared: "I think old age stinks!"

"It takes me 10 minutes to get myself out of the bed in the morning and if I don’t do the exercises, I can’t move," she admitted.

The culinary legend added: "All sorts of things that are wrong with old age."

She candidly shared: "You know, you are very conscious that this is nearly the end."

However, she went on to share how the realisation had also given her much more freedom in her approach to life.

"You then decide that you're going to make the most of it and have fun," she reflected.
