The accident proved to be just the beginning of his troubles, as the former Essex star would soon discover additional injuries upon regaining consciousness.
When Mr Wicks came round, he found his beloved dog Eric standing over him and licking his face.
However, the head injury was not the only damage he had sustained during the fall.
Mr Wicks explained: "Unconscious I woke up with Eric licking my face... I had candles on the coffee table and had a wax burn across all my eye."

The hot wax from the candles had caused significant burns to the area surrounding his eye, adding to the severity of his Christmas Day mishap.
The combination of the head trauma and the wax burns meant Mr Wicks was left with painful facial injuries that would take considerable time to heal.
The Strictly star shared the full extent of his injuries with listeners, revealing that the wax had caused substantial damage to the delicate skin around his eye.
"I had taken the skin off all my eyelid and under my eye," he said, describing how the hot candle wax had effectively stripped away layers of skin.

The reality star's candid account highlighted just how serious the accident had been, with the combination of losing consciousness and sustaining burns creating a particularly unpleasant festive experience.
The facial injuries left Mr Wicks looking considerably worse for wear, with his face becoming noticeably swollen and taking on a pink hue from the burns and trauma.
The extent of the damage meant the reality star felt unable to venture outside his home for an entire week following the accident.
Mr Wicks revealed to his co-host: "That was Christmas day, so I didn't leave the house from Christmas day until New Year's Eve, because my face was quite swollen and pink."
The week-long period of recovery saw Mr Wicks effectively confined to his residence as he waited for the swelling to subside and his facial injuries to heal sufficiently for him to be seen in public again.
Mr Thompson himself has been dealing with health concerns of his own, which he also discussed during the podcast episode.
The television personality revealed he is scheduled to undergo a surgical procedure to remove a cyst that has developed on his vocal cords.
Mr Thompson explained: "I've got a cyst on my vocal cords. I'm having that taken out, which is going to be mad because it means I have three days of vocal rest."

The operation will require him to refrain from speaking entirely for a three-day period whilst he recovers.
According to NHS guidance, such growths on the vocal cords are non-malignant small swellings that typically form on the edges of the vocal cords within the voice box, often developing when the cords come together with excessive force over an extended period.
