The Little Britain actor was put on the spot by a self-proclaimed pro-Palestine activist

Footage has emerged on social media showing actor and comedian Matt Lucas being harangued by a political activist on the London Underground.

The 51-year-old, who attempts to hide his face in the opening moments of the footage, is questioned by an unidentified man who repeatedly states towards him: "Free Palestine."

Mr Lucas has made no public statement on the Israel-Hamas conflict or Palestine. He comes from a Jewish family and is a self-proclaimed atheist.

In the shocking footage, the man recording is on an adjacent escalator to the one Mr Lucas is on, with both men travelling in the same direction.

"Free Palestine," the man mutters before lifting his camera on his phone to put Mr Lucas in frame.

Mr Lucas attempts not to interact with the man, holding his hand up to his face to try to conceal his identity.

But the man is undeterred and walks in front of Mr Lucas as the pair reach the end of their respective escalators.

"Free Palestine. Do you not like what I'm wearing, Matt? Free Palestine. Free Palestine, Matt Lucas? Free Palestine," the man says throughout the early moments of the exchange.

As Mr Lucas finds his path blocked by the man recording, he attempts to defuse the situation. "Hi, how are you?" the actor asks.

"You don't like this, what I'm wearing, do you?" the man replies, although he keeps his attire hidden from viewers.

"Sorry?" Mr Lucas replies, to which the man repeats: "You don't like what I'm wearing."

Mr Lucas begins to walk away from the man who continues to follow him. "No, I have no comment about it either way," Mr Lucas says.

As they approach another set of escalators, the man asks: "Have you got a problem with Palestinians, Matt?"

"No," Mr Lucas responds in surprise. After a brief pause, Mr Lucas appears to motion towards the phone in what could be seen as an attempt to stop the man recording.

"You can't do that, you can't grab my stuff," the man says as he returns the camera to focus on Mr Lucas, who is leaving the area up another escalator. The man doesn't follow in the footage.

The footage has allegedly since been deleted by its original poster, but several social media accounts managed to share the clip after obtaining it before it was erased.

And it's safe to say the response has been predominantly of anger towards the man recording the footage and the hostility he showed towards Mr Lucas.

After the footage was shared by an X account by the name of London & UK Street News, one X user hit out: "Just because he’s famous he has to give a comment? Nah that’s harassment, leave the guy alone."

"Bang out of order doing that to @RealMattLucas. Is it not reasonable to allow him to go about his life without being harangued by some stranger pushing a camera phone into his face, goading him for a response to some political statement you are trying to make for 'Likes'? Pathetic," a second hit out.

Elsewhere, a third said: "Can’t they just leave the bloke alone? Not everybody is obsessed with Israel & Palestine. If that floats your boat then fine but other people just want to go about their lives without things that are important to you impeding their day to day." (sic)

"Remarkable how polite Matt was to be fair to him," another commented, while a fifth said: "Ah yes harassing people on the underground network. Fantastic idea by members of the mob." (sic)

GB News has contacted Mr Lucas's representative for comment on the incident.
