Lineker's controversial post, which he shared just days ago, featured a video from the group Palestine Lobby titled "Zionism explained in two minutes."

Lizzie Cundy has delivered her verdict on Gary Lineker despite the fact he played football alongside her ex-husband at Tottenham Hotspur.

Her criticism stems from Lineker's now-deleted Instagram post about Zionism that contained what has been described as antisemitic symbolism.

Speaking to GB News, Cundy said: "He played football with my ex husband at Tottenham Hotspur. They were there at the same time. I know Gary socially we’ve got mutual friends."

GB News host Ben Leo asked: "What’s he like then? We know him from all the political stuff and the headlines, but what’s he like as a person?"

She responded: "He’s very pleasant. He’s always been nice to me, has a joke, likes to cook he’s just friendly. A nice chap, yeah. But"

"And he won’t like me saying this he needs to go, and go with immediate effect after this latest episode.

"Look, he’s had an eye-watering salary of £1.75 million with the BBC. You’re supposed to be impartial he’s so not impartial."

"He does this time and time again, and there’s no excuse for it. I was literally livid when I saw his last post. It’s totally disgraceful, and he should go. He’s been warned, he’s had so many warnings.

"He’s said sorry but does that make a difference? No, it doesn’t. He has to go. I’m sorry, it’s just not good enough."

Lineker's controversial post, which he shared just days ago, featured a video from the group Palestine Lobby titled "Zionism explained in two minutes."

The post included an illustration of a rat, which has historically been used as an antisemitic insult, particularly in Nazi Germany where such imagery was used to characterise Jews.

According to his agent, Lineker "did not notice a rodent emoticon added by the author of the post" when sharing it.

The agent further explained to the BBC: "Although if he had, he would not have made any connection. The repost has been removed."

Lineker deleted the post immediately after realising the significance of the symbol.

A spokesperson for the Board of Deputies of British Jews told the Daily Mail: "The BBC has allowed the situation with Gary Lineker to continue for far too long."

They added: "He has caused great offence with this video – particularly with his egregious use of a rat emoji to illustrate Zionists. The BBC should ask him to leave now rather than allowing him to dictate his own terms."

In an interview last month, Lineker told the BBC he was in no doubt about "where I stand" on the situation in Gaza and Palestine.

This controversy comes as Lineker is set to step down from his role as Match of the Day presenter next week, after a 64-year-old career that included scoring 461 goals as a professional footballer.
