Liam Payne's sisters have marked the first anniversary of the singer's death with deeply personal Instagram posts.
Ruth and Nicola Payne both shared emotional messages on Thursday, exactly one year after their brother died at 31 following a fall from his Buenos Aires hotel balcony on October 16, 2024.
The former One Direction member's death shocked fans worldwide when he fell from the third floor of his hotel room in Argentina's capital.
A toxicology report later showed alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system.
Both sisters used social media to express their continuing anguish, with Ruth posting family photographs, including one showing Liam dressed as a pirate, whilst Nicola shared her own tribute describing the date as one she "never wanted to see again."
Ruth revealed the devastating impact of her brother's death, writing that she had "underestimated grief" and finds herself "paralysed by it daily."
She described experiencing haunting nightmares where she finds herself in Liam's hotel room during his final moments.
"I have a reoccurring nightmare where I am in your hotel room just before it happened and you can't hear me screaming for you, my brain is locked on your last minutes on this earth, the unaccounted minutes, the minutes I will never have the answers to, the minutes that changed everything," she wrote.
The grieving sister explained that whilst My Payne's death was an event that occurred, his absence is something she experiences each morning before opening her eyes.
She now searches for signs of him everywhere, looking robins in the eye and hoping butterflies might land on her.
Nicola shared her own heartbreaking account of discovering her brother's death, revealing they learnt the news alongside the rest of the world.
She recalled telling her daughter Ffion that "Uncle Liam" would teach her about dinosaurs during their next visit, unaware that those words would be spoken on his final day alive.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
"We didn't get to say goodbye, we didn't know all of the lasts had already happened," Nicola wrote, describing how they initially prayed reports were incorrect until confirmation came hours later.
She detailed how the family includes Mr Payne in everyday moments, pointing out bright stars, rainbows, and butterflies as signs of his presence.
Nicola promised to ensure both Bear and Ffion know everything about their father and uncle, from his achievements to "the little jokes you used to tell as a kid."
Both sisters addressed the intense public scrutiny surrounding their brother's death, with Nicola stating they had received "only a minuscule amount of the ridicule" Mr Payne faced during his life and after his death, calling it "unbearable."
Ruth expressed frustration at watching triggering interviews and commentary about her brother whilst desperately attempting to resume normal life.
She reminded the public that beyond the headlines exists "a son without his Dad, parents without their child and I am lost without my brother."
