The settlement's financial details remain undisclosed

Kevin Spacey has reached an out-of-court settlement with three men who accused him of sexual assault, bringing an end to civil proceedings that were set to be heard at London's High Court later this year.

Court documents reveal that the 66-year-old actor and the claimants agreed terms last week, with Judge Christina Lambert ordering all further proceedings stayed.

"By consent, it is ordered that all further proceedings against the defendant in these actions be stayed upon the terms set out in this order and in the confidential schedule," the judge stated in her ruling dated March 13.

It is not known whether the settlement included financial terms, and no order regarding costs was made.

Mr Spacey has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

The accusations against the Oscar-winning star relate to alleged incidents occurring between 2000 and 2013.

One claimant, Ruari Cannon, chose to waive his anonymity and alleged that Mr Spacey groped him during a party in 2013 whilst the actor was performing in a play at the Old Vic, where Mr Spacey held the position of artistic director.

Mr Cannon participated in Channel 4's documentary series Spacey Unmasked last year, to which the actor responded: "Each time I have been given the time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny and I have been exonerated."

Two other claimants were granted anonymity by the court, with both having previously given evidence during Mr Spacey's criminal trial.

One anonymous accuser claimed he suffered psychiatric harm and financial losses following an alleged assault in August 2008. Mr Spacey denied those claims.

The settlement follows Mr Spacey's acquittal in a London criminal trial in 2023, where he faced nine charges of sexual offences against men and was cleared on all counts.

The American actor has also prevailed in previous civil litigation across the Atlantic. In 2022, a New York jury found him not liable in a $40 million lawsuit brought by Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp, who had alleged sexual assault.

One of the current civil claims had initially been filed in 2022 but was paused whilst the criminal proceedings took place.

The order confirming the London settlement was dated March 13 and made public on Wednesday, according to court documents obtained by the BBC.

Mr Spacey remains one of the most acclaimed performers of his generation, having won two Academy Awards during his career.

He took home the best supporting actor Oscar for his role in the 1995 crime thriller The Usual Suspects, followed by the lead actor prize for 1999's American Beauty.

His filmography includes notable appearances in Glengarry Glen Ross and LA Confidential, whilst television audiences knew him as the scheming politician Frank Underwood in the Netflix series House of Cards.

The actor served as artistic director at London's Old Vic Theatre for over a decade, from 2004 until 2015.

His career came to an abrupt halt when sexual abuse allegations first emerged, fundamentally altering his standing in the entertainment industry.
