The 90-year-old star took to social media to pay tribute to actor David McCallum

Joan Collins has issued a heartfelt tribute to actor David McCallum following his death at the age of 90.

The Scottish-born actor died in New York on Monday of natural causes following a long career in the spotlight working alongside Collins and a number of other big names.


In the years leading up to his death, McCallum was best known for starring in the US serial drama NCIS, alongside the likes of Mark Harmon and Brian Dietzen.

His CV also boasted unforgettable roles in The Man from UNCLE, The Great Escape, and Sapphire & Steel.

After news of his death broke, tribute from far and wide flooded in from many of McCallum's co-stars, colleagues, and friends.

And Collins followed suit with a message of her own, revealing the pair's romantic ties when they were both budding actors.

Sharing an old snap of the two of them, Collins penned on Instagram: "So sad that #davidmccallum - my first boyfriend at #rada - has died.

"A fine #actor a great #talent and a true #gentleman. Loved working with him on #manfromuncle #rip #ripdavidmccallum."

Inevitably, it didn't take long for Collins' fans to react to her post, with many echoing the sadness at the loss.

"Awww sooo sad to hear ..he was the first crush i had growing up ..he is so talented..thanks for the memories David," one fan replied.

A second showed their support: "Wasn't he on Sapphire And Steel....wow so sad for your loss, Joan."

And a third also weighed in: "Awfully sad ...I always thought he was a gentleman."

Among the other tributes for McCallum were a number from those he worked with on NCIS in the years leading up to his death.

Wilmer Valderrama, who plays Nick Torres in the CBS drama, also took to Instagram to write: "David, what an immense honor it was to share the screen with you.

"Your professionalism and ability to effortlessly take every one of us on a journey through your art will be felt forever. I will miss you my friend."

And co-star Diona Reasonover echoed: "Every time I was on set with David, it was a true masterclass. His wit alone was unmatched.

"I’m immensely grateful to have shared the screen with such a legend. I learned so much. Thank you, David."

Former NCIS stars also took to the web to remember the iconic actor, with Michael Weatherly writing on Twitter: "David McCallum made every moment count, in life and on set.

"Let’s raise a jug and celebrate a funny fantastic authentic man. I’ve only got 3 autographs. Connery, Tony Bennett and McCallum.

"I felt the same way as Steve McQueen in this picture from The Great Escape: Wow! It’s David McCallum! No one did it better.

"We were lucky to have him bring us Ducky. Let’s send all the love in the world to his beautiful family. Rest In Peace David." (sic)
