Social media was awash with criticism about Shaun

Viewers of The Chase took to social media on Tuesday evening to voice their frustration with Shaun "The Dark Destroyer" Wallace following what many considered a lacklustre performance in the Final Chase.

Despite ultimately securing victory against the remaining contestants, the quiz master's narrow win left numerous fans unimpressed.

Mr Wallace managed to catch the final pair with just seconds left on the clock, but the tight margin sparked a wave of criticism online.

The ITV programme, hosted by Bradley Walsh, remains a firm favourite among British audiences who tune in daily.

However, Tuesday's episode saw loyal viewers expressing disappointment at the chaser's showing during the crucial concluding round, with many flooding X to share their reactions.

The episode saw four contestants – Becci, Matthew, Shenagh and Toby – face off against The Dark Destroyer.

Both Becci and Matthew found the cash-builder round challenging, struggling to accumulate significant prize money.

Becci was quickly eliminated by Wallace, while Matthew opted for a lower offer of £1,000 to guarantee his spot in the final.

Shenagh proved the standout performer, banking £5,000 in her cash-builder before adding another £1,000 during her head-to-head battle, bringing her total to £6,000.

Toby built up £4,000 but chose to ignore his teammates' advice, going for the higher offer of £84,000.

His gamble ultimately failed as Wallace caught him, leaving only Matthew and Shenagh to compete in the Final Chase with their combined total.

The performance drew unfavourable comparisons with fellow chaser Jenny "The Vixen" Ryan, with one viewer posting on X: "That was really bad from Shaun, Jenny got 12 with one min left yesterday."

Another fan was equally critical, writing: "Shaun having another absolutely horrendous day at the office."

A third viewer piled on, commenting: "If that was just another day at the office, he needs to put in some serious overtime."

"About time they started changing the chasers on the show to keep it fresh. Shaun would be the first to go, just not up to it anymore. #thechase," a fourth demanded.

A fifth added harshly: "Embarrassing from Shaun, anyone else would retire #thechase."

Despite the criticism, Wallace has been a mainstay of The Chase since joining the programme in 2009, demonstrating his ability to handle high-pressure situations and deliver results when it counts most.

His years of quiz expertise have produced countless memorable television moments, and Tuesday's victory – however narrow – still saw him emerge triumphant.

The episode also featured a lighter moment when contestant Matthew greeted the chaser with an unexpected "Hello, gorgeous!" – a comment that left Mr Wallace lost for words.

"I'm speechless," the chaser admitted with a chuckle, prompting host Mr Walsh to quip: "Join the club!"

The exchange drew laughter from both the studio audience and fellow contestants, with Mr Walsh playfully grabbing Matthew's glasses for a closer look at Mr Wallace.
