Good Morning Britain viewers have been left less than impressed with an interview between hosts Rob Rinder and Kate Garraway with minister Peter Kyle following Friday's episode.
Labour's Business Secretary appeared on the show to discuss how the government is tackling the migrant crisis. Two deportations took place yesterday, with both being returned to France, at the same time as over 400 migrants landed on British shores.
Labour's 'one in, one out' deal has come under particular scrutiny, especially after it emerged earlier this week that an Eritrean man lost his appeal to block his deportation in the courts.
During his state visit, President Donald Trump suggested that Prime Minister Keir Starmer could consider using the military to stop the crossings. And his remarks set the stage for Ms Garraway and Mr Rinder's questioning of Mr Kyle on Friday.

Defending his government's actions, Mr Kyle told the GMB hosts: "What I do believe is that illegal migration is something that is impacting our politics here in the UK. It is something that the British public expects this government to get a grip on.
"And that is why today, when we have the second flight taking off with a migrant who doesn’t have the right to stay here, being returned as part of the new returns agreement with France.
"This is a pilot. This is something we’re trialling. You can see that we’re pushing the boundaries of the law, but we are straining it a bit to do it. If we have to change the law, we will change the law, as you’ve seen with this government as well. But we are straining it a bit and acting in every kind of way that we can.
"Donald Trump also mentioned the military. We have the UK Border Force. We have the Navy, which has a relationship with the Border Force and can be brought to bear if needed. But we are tightening our grip."

Ms Garraway cut in: "He’s saying there is a need, and I must say our viewers are agreeing with him.
"They think the two migrants, one yesterday and one that you’ve confirmed this morning, that have gone on that flight back to France, it’s just a drop in the ocean. Particularly as tomorrow, up to 10 could be coming in."
Mr Kyle replied: "We agree with this. That’s why we’ve always sold this as a pilot. We are testing the system because it is, by definition, a pilot. But this is what we will build upon.
"We cannot go from the position that we inherited from the Conservatives, which was out of control, a system where no processes were being underway, no returns were happening, no asylum processing system was in place. But over the last year, we have got the systems in place. We are ramping up-"

Mr Rinder interrupted: "Minister, you can blame the Conservative Party. (But) more than 30,000 have arrived this year. It’s very interesting to spot something you said before, that you would change the law if necessary.
"Just to be clear, so people understand what the 'one in, one out' policy is, it means that people in France, if they have a valid legal claim, will be brought here. That would include, for example, arguing various rights that they would have under the European Convention of Human Rights.
"So let’s say, for example, I have a family here. That means that they could come here whilst we deport somebody else. Now, in those circumstances, that’s not going to make much of a difference because it’s the reason people stay here in the first place.
"The question is, are you prepared, just like Jack Straw is suggesting, and, of course, David Blunkett, two well-known Home Secretaries, to withdraw from the European Convention of Human Rights, which is causing, for many, precisely the problem that you face now?"

Mr Kyle did his best to dodge the probe. "Well, you can see that Shabana Mahmood, already in her few days as Home Secretary, is launching reviews into how the law is being applied and interpreted by the courts," he said.
"This is something that we’re looking very carefully at. But what you also see with us is making sure that we get the system in place-"
An dissatisfied Mr Rinder cut in: "Sorry, forgive me. Is it possible that you might withdraw from the European Convention of Human Rights? That’s it. It’s not a difficult one."
Mr Kyle eventually answered: "We have no intention of doing so, Rob. We don’t believe we need to in order to get a grip on this system. And let me just explain...
"Yes, of course, the relationship we have with France. People will always have a right to be here. The problem is that people are coming here who do not have the right to be here, and we inherited a system where nobody was being processed."
Continuing to target the Conservatives, Mr Kyle continued: "They were being put in hotels, and they were being parked in hotels into perpetuity. They were here forever, and there was no system of either having them processed and having the right to remain, or being deported anywhere.
"That is what we’re trying to get a grip on, dealing with the mess that we’ve already inherited, where tens of thousands of people are in hotels, dealing with people who are coming across the Channel because they believe that they have the right to be here."
Mr Rinder asked for further clarity: "So no new deals for hotel owners. That’s going to be scrapped. And on top of that, Shabana Mahmood is also, as far as we can see, going to be saying no hotels, and the court system is going to be funded so that the judges can deal with this backlog of immigration cases quicker as well. Is that right?"

Mr Kyle replied: "Well, as you see, as you see, you have a Home Secretary that is straining the bit in every single way. We are now returning people to France as part of the returns agreement. That’s a pilot from which we are learning and we will build upon.
"You can see that we have processes in place where we are accelerating the processing of asylum seekers and people who come onto our shores here, so that that is something that needs to happen in the first place, so that we can get people out of hotels, be processed, returned, or have the right to remain.
"You know, we need to get a grip on the system, and that’s what we’re doing."
The interview's interruptions, combined with the calibre of Mr Kyle's answers, quickly sparked a fierce debate among GMB viewers watching at home, many of whom were unhappy.
Taking aim at the minister's handling of the grilling, one X user fumed: "OMG what a car crash that interview with @peterkyle was! So desperate trying to make a point, talking over Rob and Kate. Shocking."
A second also took aim at Mr Kyle: "One of the most pointless politicians to be interviewed, every time you see or hear him, he gets worse, the country is in a complete mess because of incompetent individuals who only care about themselves and their rich mates."
However, Ms Garraway and Mr Rinder also came under fire for their conduct. "Quite clear that Rob and Kate are too busy thinking up ‘gotcha questions’ to hear what Peter Kyle is saying. They just want headline comments to recap in a news article. The public wants to hear what ministers are saying - we can make up our own minds," a third hit out.
And a fourth echoed: "These are not interviews anymore, it's interrogation with a few gotchas thrown in. Labour has never been able to talk policy since they became elected."

Ms Garraway and Mr Rinder were slammed by a fifth who fumed: "Some of us viewers want to hear Peter Kyle, not the views of Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder. They talk over everyone. It was a brilliant interview Kyle is a brilliant minister."
While a sixth felt the GMB hosts didn't go far enough: "What a soft interview! You didn't get anything like an answer to the 'worth the risk' question."
However, the GMB stars did receive some support for their grilling of the Labour politician.
"Got nothing out of this interview despite @RobbieRinder best attempts to get a straight answer," one fan praised before a second applauded: "Excellent questions by Rob, really made him squirm. The issue is not migration, the issue is illegal migration. Those coming here illegally have no right to be here. We welcome migrants who follow due process." (sic)
