The act managed to impress the judges but many watching at home weren't pleased

Britain's Got Talent returned to screens this weekend, with Ant and Dec once again fronting the ITV show which sees a variety of weird and wonderful acts take to the stage in hopes of impressing the judges.

This year though, some fans admitted to "switching off" just minutes in as the first act took to the stage, despite winning over the judges.

The opening act of the series was made up of four people who took to the stage to perform The Greatest Show from hit musical The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman.

Immediately after standing together in front of the audience, four separate cameras were placed in front of each member of the group.

Projected onto a big screen were each of the judges faces, with each representing a different character from the musical.

The act had used AI to make it appear as though Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli were performing on stage, which the audience and judges found hilarious.

The act sailed through the audition, with each judge delighted. At one point, one of the group stated how they wanted to change perceptions of AI "taking people's jobs".

"Well that's what's just happened!" Holden quipped as the audience laughed.

However, fans tuned in were far from impressed by the act, with several blasting the use of AI.

"Watched the first act and switched off, reminded me why it’s had its day," one person admitted on X.

A fifth remarked: "Remembering the days of #bgt where we had Diversity and Susan Boyle and now you’ve got AI and the judges giving it the same level of praise as them."

"Makes a mockery of the AI strikes and negotiations. not impressed #BGT," someone else added.
