Graham Linehan applauded as he avoids Sadiq Khan social media shut-out with 'glorious' takedown: 'You're done!'

Mr Khan had taken to X to publicly criticise the proposals touted by Reform UK regarding the erection of asylum detention centres in Green constituencies, should the party make it into Downing Street.

"Reform is proving today just how despicable they truly are," Mr Khan began in his strongly-worded X post.

He went on: "Do not allow them to gain an inch in your community. Do not allow them to drag our country towards division and fear.

"Get out and vote Labour on Thursday," the London Mayor encouraged.

As is usual for Mr Khan, he proceeded to disable the comments on the post, meaning that fellow X users would be unable to reply directly to the message.

However, he appears to have been too slow off the mark for Father Ted creator, Mr Linehan.

"You're done, you traitorous t**t," the comedy writer brutally replied.

At the time of writing, Mr Linehan's response remains the only one live on the social media post.

It has also outperformed Mr Khan's original post, receiving over 21,000 likes against Mr Khan's 3,900.

And it didn't take long for fans of Mr Linehan's to applaud the fact he'd managed to respond to the Mayor of London before he was able to turn off replies.

"Quite how Graham Linehan managed to get this reply under Khan’s usually watertight ban on replies is beyond me. Kudos," one X user applauded.

A second was similarly impressed: "Wow. The single one reply is glinner's. Such wonders."

"Rather amazed that @Glinner managed to get a reply in before the intern of the odious @SadiqKhan cut off further replies. Anyway, what Glinner said," a third supporter commented.

And another weighed in: "This is ace! Sadiq has replies restricted, but look who can reply and did." (sic)

GB News has contacted the Mayor of London's office for comment on Mr Linehan's social media remark.

Mr Khan's complaint came after Zia Yusuf, Reform UK's home affairs spokesperson, unveiled plans that Green-controlled areas would be prioritised for asylum detention centres under a Reform UK government.

He said this was because of the Green Party's support for "open borders".

The Greens branded the idea "disgusting", with a spokesperson adding: "We want a fair and managed immigration system.

"We recognise we have an ageing population and agree the current system is broken, but we are not into performative cruelty."

However, Mr Yusuf has stood firm. "Given the Green Party advocates for open borders and for an infinite number of undocumented men to come here, we will prioritise Green constituencies and Green-controlled councils to locate these detention centres," he shared.

"This is the fairest approach to ensuring democratic consent for all aspects of our mass deportation programme."

However, it wasn't just the Greens and Mr Khan who spoke out in opposition to Reform UK's pledge.

Chris Philp, shadow home secretary, said of Mr Yusuf's plans: "Reform is not a serious party, and this is not a serious policy.

"It is clearly made up on the spot for a social media video."

Meanwhile, Labour's chair Anna Turley called it a "grotesque policy" and a Plaid Cymru spokesperson said: "Reform UK's latest policy announcement encapsulates everything they stand for.

"This is a deliberate effort to sow division and spread hate within our communities."
