Mr Mounfield's musical journey began when he joined The Stone Roses in 1987, contributing to both their albums before the group dissolved in 1996.

He subsequently became part of Primal Scream, performing with them until 2011 when The Stone Roses reformed.

The planned tour would have covered landmark moments including the 1990 Spike Island performance and the band's reunion stadium concerts.

This tragedy follows the loss of his wife Imelda to bowel cancer in 2023, after a three-year struggle with the disease.

During her illness, Ms Mounfield organised charitable auctions featuring items from David Beckham and Oasis to raise funds.

She told the BBC: "I just don't want to be sat thinking about cancer and illness all the time, because it is all-consuming.

"And this was just a way to balance that out - to give myself something else to think about but something positive."
