The character has been off-screen since October 2025

Sharon Watts has confirmed she will be returning to Walford permanently within a month, sharing the news with Phil Mitchell during a quiet moment at Vicki Fowler's (played by Alice Haig) and Ross Marshall's (Alex Walkinshaw) wedding reception.

The iconic character, portrayed by Letitia Dean, told her former partner that she had "a few loose ends to tie up" before making Albert Square her home once again.

During their conversation in Thursday's episode, Sharon mentioned needing to get her young son Albie home for an early flight the following morning.

When Phil enquired about her permanent return, Sharon revealed it would be "a month or so" away, adding that she has genuinely missed the East London neighbourhood.

The former Queen Vic landlady's appearance on Tuesday caught viewers off guard, arriving in Albert Square just as ex-husband Grant Mitchell departed for Portugal.

Ms Dean's character stepped out of a black cab with Albie and multiple suitcases, marking her first appearance since leaving the BBC soap last October.

Sharon had been staying with Michelle Fowler in Florida for the past seven months, and the family had previously been advised against spending money on costly flights for the wedding.

Her return comes after a turbulent period that saw her clash repeatedly with Zoe Slater over devastating lies concerning Albie's paternity.

ITV's This Morning provided confirmation of Sharon's future plans on Wednesday, with soap expert Sharon Marshall delivering welcome news to fans.

"She will come back for a very short stint now, just for the wedding, and then go off again," Ms Marshall explained to hosts Siân Welby and Craig Doyle. "But then she's back for good in about a month's time, so we have got Shazza back, the world is healing."

The journalist, who also works as an EastEnders scriptwriter, joked that the character had arrived with just "one small pink bag for her make-up" despite the lengthy journey from America.

Radio Times has independently confirmed these details about the character's permanent comeback.

Sharon's return to Albert Square coincides with considerable turmoil surrounding her sister's nuptials, as the wedding was thrown into chaos by revelations about Zack Hudson's affair with Vicki.

The groom began questioning whether to proceed after Zack suggested his bride had been unfaithful once more, leading to a violent confrontation between the two men.

Ms Marshall hinted at the drama ahead, noting: "Sharon's back and she's going to find out that her brother has been sleeping with her sister, messy."

Despite the ceremony's rocky path, Vicki and Ross ultimately exchanged vows, with Ross concluding that happiness serves as the best revenge.
