Tracy Shaw has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, sharing the news with fans in an emotional Instagram video.
The 52-year-old, best known for playing Maxine Peacock in Coronation Street, said she received the diagnosis following recent tests.
Ms Shaw revealed she is HER2 positive, a protein linked to more aggressive cancer growth, which has significantly altered her treatment plan.
"Originally I was going to be having surgery in two weeks, but because my results have come back that I am HER2 positive, it means I have to have chemo for five months," she explained.

The actress will undergo chemotherapy at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Following treatment, Ms Shaw hopes to have surgery to remove the lumps and affected lymph glands for further testing.
Additional procedures may be required before radiotherapy begins.
She also spoke candidly about the emotional impact of her diagnosis, admitting one aspect has been particularly difficult.

She said: "It doesn't mean it's been easy coming to terms with, and I know it sounds really trivial, but losing my hair."
Despite the challenges, Ms Shaw expressed gratitude for the treatment available to her.
"I am truly grateful that I have this opportunity to be able to hopefully be free from cancer as well," she added.
Her announcement prompted an outpouring of support from former Coronation Street co-stars.

Another said: "I'm so sorry to learn of your diagnosis and thank you for offering such honesty and gratitude in your video."
Ms Shaw played Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street from 1995 to 2003, initially appearing as a friend of Fiona Middleton.

Away from acting, Ms Shaw has previously spoken about overcoming addiction, revealing she follows a 12-step programme.
"You name it, I have been addicted to it and I have recovered from it," she said.
