A snap shared by the director sparked a row among fans of the iconic singer

Bob Dylan fans have been left well and truly divided after snaps emerged of his upcoming biopic starring Timothee Chalamet.

Paparazzi pictures from the set of A Complete Unknown have started to circulate online, and the photos have led to some blasting the look of the upcoming film.

An official photo shows Chalamet dressed up as the legendary singer-songwriter, 82, in his younger days as he began to find fame.

In the snap, he’s heading towards the Chelsea Hotel and one of Dylan’s favourite haunts, El Quijote restaurant-bar.

Chalamet is dressed in the singer’s signature suede jacket and sunglasses. Director James Mangold shared the snap on his social media, crediting the photo to JM w/ Leica.

The post sparked a flurry of responses from fans of the singer who are eager to find out more about his life story in film form.

It didn’t take long for them to give their verdict of the single snap though, with many sharing the photo along with their first thoughts.

One person penned: “he just looks like some guy I'm sorry,” while another added: “Timothée is a great actor and he'll probably do everything in his power to make the role succeed but I genuinely think it's gonna look a bit ridiculous.”

“Looks like any other movie ever made,” another complained. However, not all the responses were negative.

One person responded: “so f***ing excited for this movie.”

“This looks so perfect,” another enthused, while a sixth added: “Based on this pic alone - the long wait for this movie is going to be worth every minute.” (sic)

When the casting was first announced a few months ago, the film faced immediate criticism as some didn’t see Chalamet as the right choice to portray Dylan.

Mangold has talked about getting Dylan’s blessing for the movie as well as spending time with him.

According to MailOnline, he recently stated: “I’ve spent several wonderfully charming days in his company, just one-on-one, talking to him. He loves movies.”

Giving a brief synopsis of the film, he continued: “It's a kind of an ensemble piece about this moment in time, the early '60s in New York, and this 17-year-old kid with $16 in his pockets hitchhikes his way to New York to meet Woody Guthrie who is in the hospital.”

The story will detail Dylan’s transition into the legendary singer he became and his entry into the world of folk music.
