The Good Morning Britain presenter has made his feelings crystal clear on the US President's operation in Caracas

Adil Ray has returned to social media just days after causing controversy by resharing a joke about "hating white people" to share his thoughts on the ongoing situation in Venezuela.

Not one to shy away from making his political stance known, the ITV presenter ignored the backlash he was facing for the controversial clip and instead focussed his attention on condemning President Donald Trump for the capture of Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro.

US armed forces struck the Venezuelan capital of Caracas over the weekend as they took Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, into custody. They were later indicted on drug charges.

President Trump took the course of action after spending months accusing the Maduro government of flooding the US with drugs and gang members.

Maduro will face a New York court on Monday on charges of drug trafficking and weapons offences, with the White House accusing him of leading a "narco-terrorist" regime. Maduro has rejected the allegations.

Following the operations, a number of well-known faces and world leaders have had their say on the saga.

Elon Musk has publicly set his differences with President Trump aside to congratulate the White House on the mission, while UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer avoided being drawn on whether the mission broke international law, instead insisting no "tears will be shed" for Maduro.

However, the hard left in the UK, including the likes of Zack Polanski and Jeremy Corbyn, have unequivocally condemned the mission, calling on the PM to take action against its American ally.

Mr Ray appears to have joined the latter bandwagon, returning to Instagram and BlueSky to voice his strong opinions on the US President.

"Analysis suggests Trump taking over Venezuela isn't really about oil," Mr Ray began. "US don't need oil and they could do deals to rectify what they believe is owed.

"This is about reigning supreme in the Western Hemisphere. When will the UK wake up to that fact and who we appear to be supporting?

"Madness," the Good Morning Britain star signed off, before publishing a follow-up post to back up his stance.

He added: "Trump getting hands on oil ultimately allows him to sell the idea to his base. The oil pays for it.

"But ultimately this is about showing power and might. In the same way China and Russia do and will continue to."

Mr Ray's public condemnation of Trump didn't go unnoticed by his followers and fellow social media users, many of whom reacted to his post to argue against his point.

One Instagram user fired back: "The UK is not ‘supporting’ Trump. The UK is trying to manage a vital relationship from a position of extreme weakness.

"The next step, surely, is not to yell at Trump but to work harder and faster at alliances with the EU, Canada, and other rules based countries and small blocs?"

A second also hit back at the presenter: "So much disinformation, who knows what is the truth, most people want to live peaceful, work and provide for their families in a democratic society, not a communist dictatorship."

"The United Kingdom is now living under a dictator and communist. Starmer," a third person hit out. (sic)

However, Mr Ray did receive support from social media users similarlty dismayed by what was unravelling in the South American country.

"Thanks @adilray for your valuable voice," one fan applauded. "Trump’s motivation is domination.

"Our current Labour government will back Trump and focus on the crimes Maduro and not the unhinged lawlessness of the USA. We are in a very bad place."

"Only 4 days into 2026 and things looking even more scary," another person complained while a third added: "Everyone is complicit. Never felt more doomed in my life." (sic)

Mr Ray was absent from GMB on Monday morning, with Ed Balls and Susanna Reid returning from their Christmas break to oversee proceedings.
