Over 300 weather warnings are in place across the UK after Storm Henk swept the country

The UK has been issued a fresh weather warning, as Storm Henk continues to sweep across the country.

Over 300 weather warnings have been put in place for flooding, as Britons up and down the nation are facing rising levels of water entering their homes and businesses.

On Tuesday, an 87-year-old woman died after her car was hit by a falling tree in Oxfordshire.

Hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate their homes as the surging levels of rainfall continues to pour down.

Nottinghamshire County Council has also declared a major incident for the area, as flooding conditions worsen in the area.

Speaking to BBC Radio Nottingham, Councillor Neil Clarke said of the floods: "We have already evacuated some communities in some low-lying areas - but as the levels are still rising, it is important people are aware and take precautions."

Speaking to GB News, Senior Meteorologist Jim Dale said the disruption caused by the storm could last "more than a week".

Dale added that Henk being the eighth named storm for the UK in a matter of months is now "unprecedented".

Dale explained: "This is a real grief situation for those involved. Certainly for those that have got flooded houses or flooded pubs, it's terrible.

"We're moving now into a a drier phase. The last of yesterday's southern area rain is just leaving London, Kent and Easy Anglia, and we're into a colder, drier phase."

Dale warned Britons: "Ice and frost become the next problem. Not that ice and frost will be a problem to these people with the floods yet, but I think it'll be a welcome change, a respite.

"And those areas mainly affected are the Midlands and southwards up to Sheffield way."

Dale then claimed that the UK is "behind the ballpark" on their handling of extreme weather conditions such as flooding, and warned of the effects of climate change in the future.

Dale said: "These kind of events are on the can of climate change from the very beginning, in terms of saying winters would be wetter and windier, that's where we're going, that's what we've now received.

"I'm sorry to say that, but that's the direction of travel. I think part of the general election going forward, there'll be a big discussion in terms of people equipping themselves or governments, local authorities equipping themselves to be able to withstand these kind of events.

"But not just these kind of events, but the other extreme you're going to see in the summertime, which is the dry and the drought and the heat that goes with it. So I'm afraid this is a sign of the future."
