Holidaymakers heading to Turkey have been warned about the risk of sexual assault in a new advisory from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The FCDO reported that "56 cases of sexual assault, including rape", were reported to British consular staff among the 4.4 million British visitors to Turkey in 2024.
Officials have urged extra vigilance, particularly in coastal resort areas during the tourist season, where most incidents have occurred.
A significant number of these crimes were committed by hotel or spa staff or someone the victim had met during their stay.

Sexual attacks on minors using toilet facilities alone have also been reported.
The Government body noted that these incidents typically occur during the peak tourist season when tourists travel to Turkey's popular coastal resorts.
The FCDO has issued specific precautions for British travellers to Turkey to reduce risk.
It said: "Make sure children and young people are always accompanied by known and trusted people and not left alone with hotel or excursion staff.
"Use reputable providers for any services and excursions, and carry out research beforehand, including by consulting your tour operator if you have one.
"Do not unnecessarily share personal details such as information about your accommodation, personal contact information or social media accounts."
It advised that anyone experiencing sexual harassment or assault should report it immediately.
Victims should notify both their hotel and the Turkish police or gendarmerie. The emergency number for police in Turkey is 112.

In other travel news, Britons were told that rail unions plan to strike in Belgium on April 22 and April 29. This could result in "significant disruption" across the network.
Railway workers will stand against several reforms proposed by the federal government, including raising the retirement age, increasing worker flexibility, budget cuts at the railway, and reforming HR Rail, the legal employer of railway staff, The Brussels Times reported.
Holidaymakers were advised to "monitor local news and check with your travel provider regarding potential delays".
