The town prides itself for its mix of heritage, urban chic and country pursuits

A market town just 90-minutes away from London has been named the most relaxing place in the whole of Europe.

Britons need to fork out around £40 on train tickets to visit the West Sussex town and get back to the capital.

Arundel, a town with less than 5,000 residents, was named the most relaxing place to visit in the whole of Europe in 2017.

It is home to a number of independent shops, art galleries, pubs, restaurants and coffee shops.

Arundel is also known as a good place for avid cyclists and canoeists.

Holiday price comparison website TravelSupermarket previously let two travel writers rank potential locations.

The pair was particularly focused on the number of relaxing activities offered locally, including yoga and meditation.

Arundel ranked so highly because of its population density compared to the number of spas and its stunning South Downs backdrop.

The Black Rabbit pub on the banks of the River Arun provides a particularly lovely walk through the town.

The West Sussex market town is also only three miles away from the south coast and has one of the prettiest high street’s in the south east of England.

Arundel’s medieval castle is yet another great local attraction, with its historic involvement in conflict stretching from Henry I to the English Civil War.

It takes just 90-minutes to get to Arundel from London Victoria.

Walking from the local train station to the town centre will take an extra 15-minutes.

A car journey down from parts of London will also take around 90-minutes via the M23, A23 and A27.

Britons looking to relocate to one of England’s most beautiful market towns should be aware house prices are above the national average.

The average sold price for a property in Arundel in the last 12 months was £591,601, real estate website Zoopla has revealed.
