A Berlin-based startup is preparing to transform European overnight rail travel with a plan to operate trains featuring exclusively private rooms starting in 2027.
Nox aims to provide a genuine alternative to short-haul flights by offering personal cabins for one or two passengers at prices comparable to air travel - with prices from €79 (£64).
The company plans to address limitations of night train travel across the continent, visiting some of the most popular European holiday spots.
Holidaymakers can expect to travel on routes to Copenhagen, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Brussels, Rhine Ruhr, Berlin, Warsaw, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Zurich, Milan, Vienna, Budapest, Rome and Barcelona.

The cabin design has been inspired by the co-founder, who has completed more than 400 night train journeys across the world and used this experience to design the ultimate cabin.
All room options will be 100 per cent personal, with Single or Double cabins available. There will be two-metre-long beds, comfortable armchairs and large tables. Travellers can also enjoy panoramic window views.
Co-founder of Nox Thibault Constant said: "Sleeping while a train gets you across Europe is a great concept. But today, people have to share their cabins with strangers, beds are tight, and it's often more expensive than air travel. We want to change that and make night trains an essential part of European travel."
The startup's business model centres on maximising capacity whilst maintaining quality.
Co-founder Janek Smalla added: "Our room design allows us to fit more people into our trains than traditional operators can. This, paired with a strict focus on standardisation and operational excellence, will allow us to offer affordable fares on over 35 European routes."
The standardised approach across the planned network of 35 routes is key to achieving competitive pricing. By operating uniform train configurations and streamlined processes, Nox aims to deliver private accommodation at costs that rival budget airlines, potentially shifting passenger preferences for medium-distance European travel.
The company has already secured train coaches and is in the final stages of obtaining approval for its interior design. Nox is currently preparing for a substantial financing round scheduled for autumn.
