Jet2 has told passengers how they can prepare for their flights during this period of extreme weather

Many Britons will want to escape the bitter temperatures in the UK and hop on a plane somewhere hot as soon as possible.

But British airline Jet2 has issued a weather warning for holidaymakers as temperatures plummet.

In a UK Weather Disruption warning, Jet2 told customers how they must respond to the changing temperatures which could lead to delays for travellers.

Passengers will need to be well prepared before their flights, allowing extra time for delays and disruptions, and they are being asked to keep their essentials in their hand luggage.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "We are aware of various weather warnings for the remainder of this week that may affect some of our UK operations.

"Our operations team are continually working with the Met Office to ensure we have the latest and up to date information so we can react quickly should there be any disruption.

"If you are due to fly on a Jet2.com flight during this period, please allow extra time to get to the airport and carry any essentials in your hand luggage (with liquid restrictions in mind).

"At present, all our flights are scheduled to depart on time and our check in desks will continue to close 40 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your flight.

"We will always (where required) board our flights for an on-time departure, meaning, we can depart as soon as we have clearance. During events of bad weather this could cause a longer than usual wait onboard the aircraft, we apologise in advance if this is the case."

Jet2 assured passengers that Crew onboard and the Red Team at UK bases will be available to answer any questions.

If your Jet2 flight is disrupted by the extreme weather, the airline will contact passengers via SMS and email. The Red Teams and Crew will also be given the latest updates to pass on to travellers.

Passengers set to take a Jet2 flight during this period should keep consulting https://www.jet2.com/latest-travel-information where the latest information will be posted. They are advised to check the page at least 12 hours before their flight for up-to-date information.

In the event of a flight delay, Jet2 customers can find the latest information for their trip on this page using the search panel by entering their flight number or route.

The airline told customers to arrive at their departing airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time. Check-in desks will close 40 minutes before scheduled departure.

The airline concluded: "We hope disruption during this time will be minimal, if you do experience any disruption caused by the current weather conditions, we will do everything we can to get you away as quickly as we can.

"We hope you have a lovely flight, and we look forward to welcoming you on board."

Holidaymakers who are flying with other airlines should also be aware of the extreme weather conditions and how these can affect flights. They should keep up to date with information regarding their trip.
