  • Amazon unveils next-generation video doorbell
  • Available for pre-order now for £59.99
  • Ships in mid-August
  • Compatible with Amazon Alexa devices

Amazon has unveiled its next-generation Blink Video Doorbell, which promises homeowners peace of mind.

Known for its smart and easy-to-use security solutions, Blink offers devices for both home and office use. If you're new to home security, this new release should be a great place to start.

The second-generation Blink Video Doorbell is the newest addition to its home security lineup. Available for preorder today, the new doorbell costs just £59.99 and will start shipping mid-August.

This is also the second video doorbell in Blink’s lineup, and it comes with several noteworthy upgrades. Most notably, it features a 150° head-to-toe field of view, giving you a clear look at your entire entryway. Whether you're greeting guests, keeping an eye on package deliveries, or checking in remotely, you’ll get a complete picture, day or night.

Worried about visibility after dark? The built-in HD infrared night vision ensures you can still see everything clearly, even in low-light conditions. Installation is also simple. The doorbell includes its own mounting kit, requiring no extra tools. It runs on three AA lithium batteries, delivering up to two years of battery life before you need to worry about buying new batteries.

If you're new to Blink, Amazon recommends you purchase the new doorbell bundle that includes a Sync Module. Otherwise, if you've purchased a Blink device before, there's a good chance you already own one.

Sync Modules are hubs that plug into an electrical outlet to relay commands and network details to devices in the systems they manage. You can save video clips without a subscription, improve convenience for scheduling, and manage several devices at once. If you don't need a Sync Module, then you can save £10 and secure the new video doorbell for £49.99.

For comparison, the most affordable Ring-branded video doorbell with a built-in battery and head-to-toe view like the second-generation Blink Video Doorbell costs £99 — almost twice the cost. And that's before you factor-in the extra cost of the pricier Ring subscription.

Blink's new Video Doorbell is available for preorder now at just £59.99, with shipping starting mid-August. As the second in its lineup, it offers a 150° head-to-toe field of view, HD infrared night vision, and up to two years of battery life on three AA lithium batteries. Easy to install with the included mounting kit, it gives you full coverage of your entryway — day or night.

If you already use Amazon Alexa-enabled devices, you can connect the doorbell for hands-free monitoring and real-time notifications. That means you can stay informed without constantly checking your phone. Just keep in mind—a Blink subscription is required to receive these alerts.

There are also two Blink subscriptions to choose from:

PlanMonthlyAnnual Devices CoveredCloud StorageLive-View RecordingPerson DetectionExtras
Basic£2.50~£251 device30 daysYes (limited)Yes (device‑specific)
Plus£8~£80Unlimited30 daysYesYesAmazon 10% discount, extended warranty

While the Basic subscription is only £25 annually, it covers only one device. You can add unlimited devices to the Plus plan and get 10% off on future Blink purchases and an extended warranty.

The basic plan is cheaper in comparison with Ring's subscription, which charges £49.99 annually for the basic plan. Both plus subscription plans, however, are £80 annually.

Ring was originally founded in Santa Monica, California, in 2013 and was later acquired by Amazon in 2018. Similar to Blink, it's best known for creating its popular video doorbells and security cameras to prevent crime.

While both Ring and Blink are owned by Amazon and could be considered siblings, Ring is positioned to have premium offerings and a higher price point, whereas Blink is a more affordable option in comparison.

Prices have also been slashed on a few other Blink security devices, so now may be a good time to stock up on a few items:
