Rafael Nadal is set to play in his last French Open ahead of his imminent retirement.

Rafael Nadal faces an almighty task to get past the first round of his final French Open appearance after being drawn to face Alexander Zverev.

The Spaniard has won an unprecedented 14 French Open titles in his career, earning him the moniker as the 'King of Clay'.

He was unable to defend his 2022 title last year due to the latest in a long line of injury setbacks.

Those fitness issues eventually saw Nadal miss the remainder of the 2023 season and he admitted 2024 would likely be his last on the ATP Tour.

His injury problems have persisted this year, but he had always targeted being fit for the French Open one final time.

Nadal conceded following his second-round exit at the Italian Open last week that he could find it difficult to get past the opening round of Roland Garros.

"I'm going to play the tournament thinking that I can give my all, 100 per cent," he said.

"And if 100 per cent is not enough to win a match, I'll accept that.

"But I don't want to step onto court knowing that I have no chance.

"If there's a 0.01 per cent chance, I want to explore that and give it a go."

Nadal has had to use a protected ranking to enter the French Open this year, meaning he was not one of the top seeds in the draw.

The 37-year-old would have hoped for a match to ease into the tournament, but he's been handed a difficult first-round tie.

If Murray and Norrie come through their first-round matches then they could face each other in the next round.

Jack Draper will go up against a qualifier in the first round, but he could take on Carlos Alcaraz in the second round.

Novak Djokovic will fancy his chances of getting up to speed in Paris as he takes on doubles specialist Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
