Britain's Billie Jean King Cup captain Anne Keothavong has revealed her frustration at the absence of the nation's premier tennis talent for Thursday's crucial quarter-final encounter with Japan.
The Team GB skipper acknowledged feeling let down by the withdrawal of her leading player from the originally selected roster.
"Yeah, obviously just disappointing not to have your top player here," Keothavong stated on Wednesday.
Despite the setback, she maintained focus on the available squad members, adding: "But look, as I've said before, we're here and we're ready to go tomorrow."

The captain emphasised her confidence in the remaining players whilst preparing for the significant fixture.
The 22-year-old former US Open victor has chosen to participate in the Korea Open rather than represent her nation.
Her decision centres on accumulating vital ranking points that could secure her position for the Australian Open in 2025.
The withdrawal came after her initial selection for the British team, marking a significant blow to the squad's prospects.
By prioritising her individual career trajectory, Raducanu has opted for the opportunity to improve her world ranking through the Korean tournament.

The substitute player expressed enthusiasm about her selection and the chance to serve her nation.

She highlighted her successful campaign this year, noting: "Obviously I've had a good season so far. I've built a lot of momentum."
Jones confirmed she had managed to join the team despite competing in Sao Paulo, demonstrating her commitment to the national cause.
"I'm very happy to be here and join the girls and join my team and enjoy my experiences as previously. Just ready to rock and roll, really," she affirmed.

The coach argued that multiple perspectives exist on the matter, stating: "There's always two sides to everything. It's very easy to come down on the side that you should want to represent your country."
Petchey highlighted Raducanu's previous commitment to Team GB, particularly her clay court success against France.

"When you look back at what she achieved on the clay against France, she proved that when she's put up against it, she can produce the goods and does want to play," he explained.
The coach also criticised the tennis calendar's structure, adding: "I don't think you can blame Emma for a schedule that makes zero sense."
