The 49-year-old won the Tour Championship on Sunday

Mark Williams has hailed Lee Walker and credited him for his brilliant form after beating Ronnie O'Sullivan to win the Tour Championship on Sunday.

The 49-year-old won 10-5 to beat the Rocket and secure the huge £160,000 prize money.

Williams has since taken to social media to reflect on last night's remarkable triumph.

And he lauded former snooker star Walker, insisting he might not be playing as well without the 48-year-old mentoring him.

Williams wrote: "It kills me to say this and I may dekete [delete[ it before he sees it. But withiut [without] 5 head aka @leewalker147 I may not be olaying [playing] as well as I am blah blah blah.

"Without doubt best coach i wirked [worked] with by a country mile."

Williams has been posting several messages since his remarkable triumph.

In a second, he said: Is it a dream or did last noght [night] reall [really] happen."

Williams also shared a snap of his son and replied by saying: "Could be yiu [you] next."

The 49-year-old has understandably been left delighted by his triumph.

Speaking after his win, he joked about being a 'part-timer' by saying: “I played well all day.

"I was 3-1 up, 5-3 down, he played unbelievably well and sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up, but tonight I took it to him and played really well.

“It’s not bad for a part-timer. What can I say? I never thought I’d be winning tournaments at 49, so who knows?

"The World Championships are around the corner. He’s the man to beat, but you never know. I’ll try my best.”

O'Sullivan, meanwhile, showed class by hailing Williams for his performance.

The 48-year-old was 5-3 up going into the evening session before ultimately being left behind.

And O'Sullivan paid Williams a huge compliment by saying: “I think he's been the best player and the most consistent player for the last five years.

"The way he’s been hitting the ball, very rarely does he play a poor match.

“The way he’s played this week and tonight. Just an amazing player really and so talented.

"I think he’s better now than he’s ever been. He just seems so strong.

“I tried, I gave it everything to stay in the game but if you don’t keep playing top level snooker he eats you alive.

"I thought I did well to get five frames today to be honest with you!”

O'Sullivan also joked that Williams would be the best player in the world - if he didn't like other things in life, too.

“I think if he was to dedicate his whole life, he’d probably be number one in the world but he doesn’t, he likes to play golf, chill out and enjoy his life," he quipped.

“He’s the deserved winner. He’s probably the most talented snooker player I’ve ever seen.”
