Gary Kelly tragically lost his life after falling off a balcony at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel

A nineteen-year-old ice hockey player has died after falling from a balcony at a hotel in Ibiza, marking the second fatality at the same establishment within a fortnight.

Gary Kelly plummeted from the third storey of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio during the early hours of Monday morning. Emergency services dispatched two ambulances to the scene, but medical personnel were unable to save the teenager.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight, according to authorities investigating the circumstances.

This latest tragedy follows the death of twenty-six-year-old Evan Thomson from Aberdeen, who died in similar circumstances at the hotel on 7 July whilst celebrating his birthday with friends.

Spanish police have confirmed they are examining the death of the British teenager, with the Civil Guard stating that the alarm was raised at approximately 12.40am.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the young man had already died from injuries sustained in the fall from the hotel's third floor to an exterior area of the premises.

Authorities removed the body at 2.40am following authorisation from court officials. Initial examination of security footage suggests the fall may have been accidental, though investigators emphasised the importance of locating and interviewing potential witnesses.

The Civil Guard indicated that post-mortem results would play a crucial role in determining the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following Evan Thomson's death earlier this month, his relatives expressed concerns regarding safety measures and criticised the establishment's handling of the situation.

The Aberdeen resident had been holidaying with companions when the fatal incident occurred.

The proximity of these two deaths has raised questions about the circumstances at the popular San Antonio party venue.

Thomson's family members voiced their dissatisfaction with how hotel management addressed the tragedy in its immediate aftermath.

Kelly competed for both Dundee Stars and Aberdeen Lynx during the previous season, earning recognition as an exceptional talent within Scottish ice hockey circles.

"He wore his heart on his sleeve, and that spirit left a lasting mark on our team, our club, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him," the Lynx statement read.

Ibiza Rocks announced the suspension of its events programme in response to the recent tragedies. The hotel stated it was "deeply shocked and devastated" by the incidents and confirmed its priority was supporting those affected whilst cooperating fully with authorities.

The establishment emphasised that guest safety remained its paramount concern and indicated that pausing scheduled entertainment was appropriate given the gravity of the situation. Management confirmed that ticket holders would receive direct email notifications regarding cancellations.

The UK Foreign Office acknowledged it was providing assistance to Kelly's family and maintaining contact with Spanish authorities. The teenager's relatives have requested privacy during this difficult period, according to statements from both ice hockey clubs.
