The Rocket has long dominated the sport, establishing himself as one of the best players in history

Ronnie O'Sullivan has claimed he's currently 'on strike' from 147 breakers in snooker unless the prize money is increased.

Rocket has hit 15 maximums during his glittering career so far, two more than John Higgins.

During the recent Welsh Open, Gary Wilson hit a 147 break as he beat Higgins in the semi-final.

After that achievement, O'Sullivan was asked about his own record while working as a pundit for Eurosport.

And the 48-year-old thinks he could hit five or six more while he's still playing - but says he's currently 'on strike'.

"I reckon another five or six, but I went on strike a long time ago," said the snooker icon.

When asked if he would stay on strike, O'Sullivan then said he would until snooker chiefs 'start bumping up the prize money'.

O'Sullivan also confirmed he would start going for 147s again if the reward was a huge £147,000.

Rocket has long spoken about the pay for snooker players and, back in 2016, claimed the prize money for hitting a maximum was 'too cheap'.

He hit a 146 at the Welsh Open instead.

Speaking at the time, he said: "I could have got on the black and possibly made a 147.

"I knew it was ten grand and I just thought that’s a bit too cheap, really.

"To make a maxi, it’s such a massive achievement and if they’re going to pay us ten grand, I think it’s worth a bit more than that.

"Once the prize goes up a bit, I’ll go for the 147.

"A 146 is just as good!"

O'Sullivan enjoyed a positive start to the year, winning both The Masters and World Grand Prix.

But he's currently taking a break and recently said he wouldn't be playing at the Welsh Open due to 'stage fright'.

O'Sullivan has always been open about his mental health and how snooker can negatively impact his state of mind.

And he said earlier this week that the 'game gets to all of us', while also revealing he finds snooker 'frustrating' as well.

"You can play with a broken foot, a broken arm, but if your head’s bad you can forget trying to play this game," he said.

"Sometimes you might get away with it but temperament is everything. The game gets to all of us.

"It’s the most frustrating game on the planet without a doubt.

"If you ask all 128 players if they struggle with it most of the time, the answer would probably be yes.

"Maybe with the odd exception of John Higgins, Neil Robertson who are so good technically that they might have less frustrating days. It’s just the nature of the beast.

"You’d do well to get a doctor in for every tournament, have his little surgery around the corner and any player that felt like they were in a bad place could go in there for 10 or 15 minutes.

"Sometimes that’s all you need, someone who knows what you’re going through, who understands the difficulties of the game.

"Get it off your chest, it wasn’t that bad, let’s go again tomorrow.

"I have full respect for this game and the players who play it."
