The Brighton star is poised to move to Anfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the club have agreed a massive £110million deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

The midfielder had been expected to move to Chelsea, with the Blues making the 21-year-old a priority target.

That deal has collapsed, however, and Liverpool are now poised to make Caicedo the most-expensive signing in Premier League history.

Klopp has now spoken out ahead of his side's clash with Chelsea on Sunday and confirmed the Ecuador international will be moving to Merseyside.

"The fee with the club is agreed. We will see what that means," stated the German, who will be hoping to guide his side back into the Champions League this season.

"We aren't a club with endless resources and we didn't expect a couple of things to happen this summer.

"Then it happened."

When asked if Caicedo could have a medical today, he added: "I cannot say. I don't know."

Liverpool will have to be at their best to overcome Chelsea on Sunday, with the Blues showing signs of improvement during pre-season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

On that battle, Klopp said: "We prepared the Chelsea game for a while. There is no distraction.

"I think it is two talented football teams, we watched Chelsea on their tour and there were a lot of good things.

"That's what we have to prepare for. It's their first game and they will want to show up.

"They have really good options offensively. It's the first competitive game for us and we really want to go for it, but have to see how it goes.

"I think we should give it a proper try."

When asked about Liverpool's pre-season, the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz boss said: "I enjoyed it a lot. The boys were open, listening and eyes and ears open.

"We did a lot not only on the pitch but meetings as well.

"We really wanted to learn our game. It must be different, we want to go to next level in our game together.

"There were moments in the games where we were more open and not protected [last season].

"It is an organisation thing, not down to individual talent."

He continued: "We have a new start with Liverpool FC reloaded if you like.

"Everyone was asking for changes, rightly so. The timing for a change is a biggest one in life.

"Now it happened and that's good. Everyone has to step up. The new leadership group has to step up.

"The new leadership group has to step up. The players who aren't in it, they have what it takes to be in there.

"Cody, Dom captain of his national team at 22, Macca as well. Let's take responsibility. Don't try to be like someone - try to be the best version of yourself."

And when asked about more added time in matches, he stated: "It's difficult to answer. We have a 90 minute game. If we get to 55/60 minutes with the ball in play, we will see.

"It doesn't sound too difficult. We have too many competitions, too many games and having three or four minutes with the ball in play, I can't see it making a massive difference.

"I think time-wasting and rhythm-breaking has become a massive issue in recent years.

"I thought it would make sense to give earlier cards for time-wasting. But I hope we end up with a good solution - not 10-15 mins extra time and also loads of yellow cards."
