The Brit has struggled this season with Max Verstappen the sport's dominant force

Lewis Hamilton has revealed he's given up alcohol as he looks to transform his fortunes in F1.

The Stevenage-born racer is one of the best competitors in the sport's entire history, having won seven Formula One titles throughout his career so far.

Ever since missing out on an eighth crown to Max Verstappen in 2021, however, he's struggled to keep pace with the Red Bull star.

Hamilton missed out on the crown to his 25-year-old rival last year, too.

And Verstappen has been dominant this season, too, with the Red Bull star winning a huge 17 races so far.

Hamilton recently launched a new non-alcoholic tequila drink, with the Brit expanding his empire away from the grid.

The 38-year-old, speaking to Vogue, has revealed he's gone sober as he looks to get back to his blistering best.

“I’ll suffer for several days—sometimes it’ll be like three or four days,” he said when asked about a night out.

“I’ve always been looking for how do you get that extra one per cent?

"As an athlete, that’s what you are always doing.

"There is pressure [to drink] within a social setting.

"You have that one shot are like, 'Damn, why did I do that?' when you get home.

"I was like, wow, that's kind of crazy how I'm feeling pressured.

"And I realised, how can I be feeling pressure at 38? Imagine young 18 year olds."

Hamilton added: "The fact is, alcohol does not help with that [the pressure].

“I don't know if I’m going to drink again.

“Since I’ve stopped drinking, I’ve just been feeling so much better, so much more clarity.

"I sleep better, I wake up in the morning and I can still get up at 5am."

While the F1 season is nearly over - there are just two races remaining - Hamilton has shown signs of improvement over the past few weeks.

He finished second at the US Grand Prix, though was later disqualified for running an illegal floor.

Hamilton bounced back from that disappointment with a strong showing in Mexico, where he also finished second.

And while Mercedes endured a torrid time at the Brazil Grand Prix last weekend, there's renewed optimism they can bounce back at the Las Vegas GP on November 19.

Hamilton did admit after that race, though, that he expects Verstappen and Red Bull to continue their dominance going forward.

"Ultimately, all I can do is try to remain optimistic," he said.

"The Red Bull is so far away, and I think they're probably going to be very clear for the next couple of years."

On his race in Brazil, he added: "I knew that it would be a difficult day, nothing changed on the car [from the Sprint and in it, I ate through the tyres.

"My guess is that the floor was not working, it is something we rely on and so that pushed us to go to a higher rear-wing, which is massively draggy on the straights.

"We were losing too much time on the straights and there was nothing I could do about it and then we were sliding into the corners - so we will have to look into why that was the case.

"Ultimately, it is a setback, but as a team, we'll just come together and try to push forwards.

"There'll be a lot of analysis this week and I'm sure there'll be things where we're like: 'We should have maybe done this, it would have been a little better', but ultimately, the car didn't work for some reason, and that is the way it is."
