Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has been handed a £300,000 tax bill after losing a court battle with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

The 28-year-old, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, was ordered to pay outstanding corporation tax linked to his image rights company.

He has also been hit with an additional £35,000 bill from his accountants, according to The Sun.

The details emerged after Zinchenko placed Alex Zinchenko Image Rights into voluntary liquidation this week.

The company had been used to channel earnings from his football career, which has included significant success in England and abroad.

HMRC had previously taken the case to the High Court, seeking to have the company wound up.

The court heard in February that the case had been settled when Zinchenko’s representatives agreed to pay the sums owed, though the figures were not disclosed at the time.

He was originally the sole shareholder, but the company later changed hands, with Ukraine FA official Artemijs Rjabovs taking over and renaming it Ozir Ltd in July.

Zinchenko’s weekly wage at Arsenal is reported to be around £150,000, meaning it would take him just two weeks to earn the amount required to settle the outstanding bill.

The Ukrainian international has enjoyed a decorated career since arriving in England from Russian club Ufa in 2016. During his six years at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, he won four Premier League titles, four League Cups, and the FA Cup, as well as finishing a Champions League runner-up in 2021.

His versatility, operating both at left-back and in midfield, made him a valued member of City’s squad before a £30million move to Arsenal in 2022.

At Arsenal, he quickly established himself as a key figure under Mikel Arteta, bringing leadership and experience to a young team.

Zinchenko helped the Gunners mount a strong challenge for the Premier League title in the 2022–23 season and was an influential presence both on and off the pitch prior to his loan move away from the club earlier this summer.

Internationally, he has been a mainstay for Ukraine, winning more than 60 caps since making his senior debut in 2015.

He played a crucial role in their run to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, scoring in the last-16 victory over Sweden.

While the tax dispute is now resolved, Zinchenko’s focus will return to his on-field commitments with Nottingham Forest, where he is looking to gain regular minutes before returning to Arsenal at the end of the season.

Forest hope the left-back can help them challenge for Europe this season.

Zinchenko is poised to become a key player for Nuno Espirito Santo, though the Premier League side have endured a mixed start to the new season.

Nuno has been linked with a move away from the club but Forest insist they've got no plans to change managers, despite links to former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.
