The forward hasn't played for the Red Devils since January 2022

Mason Greenwood has 'no great desire' to play for Manchester United again and feels the club should have 'supported him better', according to reports.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently sent shockwaves around world football by suggesting the 22-year-old's expected exit from the club wasn't set in stone.

Last week, the British billionaire said: "I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it.

"The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forward.

"You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

"What we need to do when have issues like that is understand the real effects, not the hype, then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it."

Yet despite Ratcliffe's comments, The Athletic say Greenwood has 'no great desire' to return to United and play for the club again.

The striker was arrested in January 2022 and later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The forward, who has one England cap, denied the charges.

And, in February last year, the case was dropped.

In the summer, there were suggestions United were planning on bringing Greenwood back into the fold ahead of the new Premier League season.

Erik ten Hag, it was said at the time, believed he'd have the England international as a member of his squad for the current campaign.

But the Red Devils, after being hit with a huge backlash online, then opted to loan Greenwood to Getafe instead.

The 22-year-old has impressed in LaLiga, scoring 10 goals and clocking up five assists from 22 matches.

He is believed to be happy living in Spain alongside his young family, having become a father last year.

Greenwood reportedly thinks United 'could have supported him better' during his hiatus.

And he recognises the scrutiny he could receive if he returned to Old Trafford, too.

Greenwood was back in Manchester around Christmas time to enjoy the festive season with his family and friends.

He is content in Spain, however, with Greenwood living out of the spotlight over in Europe.

Meanwhile, Getafe manager Jose Bordalas recently opened up on Greenwood and said the striker was a 'great guy'.

It was recently alleged that Jude Bellingham had aimed an insult at the forward during a recent match between Getafe and Real Madrid.

And Bordalas then opened up on the investigation into Bellingham by praising Greenwood and the way he conducts himself around the club.

"I know the same thing that you know," he said.

"It's not up to me, it's the club, La Liga and the (Spanish Football) Federation (RFEF) that have to make an assessment about it.

"The only thing that I can say is that I ask for respect for Mason Greenwood because he is a great guy.

"He is a man who respects everyone and has exemplary behaviour."

Greenwood has been linked with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona during his time in Spain.

It is currently unclear what will happen with the England international come the end of the season, however.
