The Red Devils are pushing to make their third signing of the summer

Manchester United have made a fresh £70million bid for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the Premier League season.

The deal is believed to be an initial £65million, with £5million in add-ons.

Mbeumo, 25, is already said to have made his decision regarding his future, choosing Amorim’s side as his next destination if he were to depart the Gtech Community Stadium.

Despite former boss Thomas Frank moving to Tottenham Hotspur and the north London club floating their intention of a £70million bid, the player made it clear that if he were to leave, Old Trafford would be his choice.

The Bees are said to have used this bid as a benchmark for United, who now believe they have matched this with their latest offer.

The priority for United at this stage remains Mbeumo, and the club would like to get a deal completed before they head out for their US pre-season tour, which they fly to on Tuesday.

The latest bid from United marks their third offer for the winger, seeing an initial £55million total package rejected, followed by a £62.5million offer that was also turned down by the Bees.

The 25-year-old scored 20 league goals last season

Mbeumo, who joined the Bees from French side Troyes in 2019, is entering the final year of his contract at the club, but it does not appear to have reduced his asking price for United.

The Cameroon international scored 20 goals and provided eight assists for Brentford in the Premier League last season, and stood out as one of the league’s most impressive forward players outside of the traditional ‘top six’.

If he were to join the Red Devils, the 25-year-old would be joined by Matheus Cunha, who also fits into the same category of elite attacking output for mid-table sides.

The Brazilian joined United from Wolves in a £62.5million deal last month.

The Red Devils endured a woeful campaign last year, finishing 15th, with goalscoring their primary concern (among many).

Amorim’s side scored just 44 goals in the league, the second-lowest figure outside of the relegated teams behind Everton on 42.

The additions of Cunha and, potentially, Mbeumo should change this narrative dramatically.

Matheus Cunha was Manchester United's first summer signing, joining from Wolves in a £62.5million deal

The pair scored 35 Premier League goals and provided 14 assists between them last season, and would present a huge upgrade for the Red Devils.

For United’s departures, however, there is less movement.

Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho and Antony have all been told they can leave the club, but none of the outcast quintet have yet found a suitor.

Rashford has received interest from Juventus and Barcelona, who are put off by his £40million asking price, and Chelsea are considering a move for Garnacho, who has expressed his desire to stay in the Premier League.

It is likely that United would need at least one of those players to leave before they can consider re-entering the market, after the arrival of Mbeumo.
